WOW kool, You are able to connect to the net even after CPE LAN cable is connected to WAN port of ur D-Link router?

Can you please provide me with the D-Link Router's WAN settings?

Thanks in advance,
Omkar

Reliance person told it is Wi-Max for sure.

But does it make any difference? I think it won't, as for every connection, whether it is Cable/ADSL/Wi-Max, IP address gets allocated through DHCP and authentication method is also same(the reliancebroadband.co.in page login)

I am not sure how you dont have a modem. It could be cable broadband.

You will have to buy a wireless router which supports your connection type. Some routers support both cable & DSL/ADSL. Some support only one of them.

cheers.

Thanks Admin and Bluetooth for taking interest in my problem.

I made an enquiry regarding Netgear wireless router. 54mbps is available for arnd 1800/- in Pune. What is the speed of your one? Is it still available? I have even checked online shops on ebay.in, etc.. Price is around 1800/-..

Default Configuring Belkin Wireless Router

Hello

I have just got a Reliance Wimax Connection here at Bangalore. My apartment is in Whitefield, Bangalore. As Reliance has a tower near ITPL; I have not encountered any problems with the connection so far and the connection is very fast.

The problem is configuring my Belkin Wireless router to this Wimax connection. I had gone through the other thread and tried to follow the instructions given for configuring the wireless router for D LINK, Linksys and Net Gear routers; but did not get any success. I gave the Dynamic IP address for the WAN connection and hard coded the DNS servers. I found four DNS servers when I gave Ipconfig/all for the connection. However, there was only provision to provide two in the router settings. I gave the first two and later on tried different permutations and combinations but to no avail.

I appreciate if anyone can help me in this regard.

Post Reliance Wi-max and wireless home network

Hi everyone, i've been using the reliance wimax conneciton for the last 4 months now. (The one with the antenna at the roof pointing towards a reliance tower)

I have 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 pda and 1 Sony PSP what i use to connect to internet at various time.

I use a Linksys WRT54G wireless router cum access point which is connected to the relaince modem/power sullpy to the antenna.

My Desktop is wired to the router via lan cable, the other 3 devices use wi-fi to connect to the net wirelessly.

Normally, my laptop is always on and conneted to the net over wi-fi.. i do tons of torrent downloads. and over the last 4 mnths have downlaoded over 100 gb of stuff.

Some of my experiences with reliance are:

Good:
1. The speed is very good and consistently high through out the day.
2. Many time i experience speeds greater than my plan speeds. (I have a 300kbps unlimited plan)
3. Most of the ports are unblocked and downloading is an absolute joy.

Bad:
1. Customer service feels quite incompetent and is more or less useless. No toll free number to call from other than reliance phone and cost money without resolution.
2. Tech suport is not instant, people normally try to reach u the next day.
(most of the time, i have received a call back within 24 hrs, others experiences may vary)
3. The extremely anoying login page.
4. Many times, u lose IP, which results in you not being able to connect to the internet. This is because their DHCP is unable to assin an IP to my router. Happens may be once a month to me, and usually fixes it self automatically or after a phone call , normally withing 24 hrs. but , if u're not home, since u can't log in , u can download anything any ways,.

My biggest ise has been losing the IP. however this happens infrequently now. I probably call customer service once a month.

Abt the wireless setup, i do not have a static IP, so, in my wireless router setup (Router has been provided by reliance), u need to select conenction type as "Automatic - DHCP" and the router sets up net automatically.

I've not had problems with my router blocking , the router is a normally available pupular linksys model.

I have a suggesiton though, The reliance conenction, once you've logged in, assigns the IP to your router's/desktop's lan/laptop's LAN MAC Address.

What this means is that, lest say, u connect the lan cable to ur laptop and log in to the reliance website. once you're authenticated, u are able to browse. Now, If you remove that lan cable and plug it into lets say to another computer , then you will not be able to browse any more as the "MAC ID" of the system to which the I was assiged has changed.

You would need to disconnect for abt 20 mins let the session expire and then conenct it to a different computer.

so, lets say, if u conenct it to ur laptop and internet work, if u immediately remove it and connect it to you router, net will not work. U ahve to power off everything for a lil over 20 mins- 30 mins and then power it on. It should then give an IP to ur router and u can use multiple systems via teh router.

I personally do not think they block routers, however, if u feel they do, many router offer teh ability to clone the MAC ID of your cjoice, so, u can clone the MAC ID of you pc on your router and check if it then works.

Though bit long ... I hope it was helpful to a few people.

Bisu, what are you paying for the router? Is it a monthly plan or outright purchase?

They charge 100 bucks + 12.5% servcie tax to the regular monthly bill.... when i took it i had enquired about an outright purchase, and i was informed that they did not have that scheme available. I'm planning to retunr it and buy my own in a couple of months though.
