here is the Email from Reliance Technical Support:- "Dear customer, Greetings of the day! With reference your mail, we would like to inform you that the ADSL Modem is in Bridge Mode and there is no facility to access the web interface of ADSL Modem. For additional product and service related information you may contact us through any of the following means: Phone: *377 from any Reliance fixed phone 1800 22 7773 from any MTNL / BSNL phone 022-3033 7777 from any phone Email: broadband@relianceada.com (Working hours between 9 am to 9 pm) Fax: 022-30337878. Yours sincerely, Broadband Customer Care Reliance Communications" ================================================== ======= I'm pretty sure that this is not the case, its just that the Reliance Technical Support seems Incompetent to answer this question, so this seems a lame reply to me. I request the Forum Moderators to please respond to this thread and keep the members involved in this thread aware as there have been 84views for the same and not even a single reply. NetGear Wireless Router is available in the market for 2040Rs (Retail Price) I just need instructions on the configuration part Note: By the way:- This response was recieved after 4 reminders and numerous calls to Customer Care......disgusting Customer Service i would say! Rep Power: 3 | Hi, In response to your question - I am using a Netgear wifi router to access my broadnet connection. As you have given below, the reliance help desk people are completely clueless !!! and need help from all of us folks to resolve problems !!! Thats another story for another day..... Anyway coming back to your question of configuration, heres how - 1. Start your ADSL modem. Dont connect the ethernet cable to the router yet. Wait for the WAN & PPOE indicator to glow on the modem. 2. Connect the cable from the modem to the WAN port on the router. 3. Turn on wifi on the laptop/PC. 4. If its XP, then it will automatically detect the router or you can manually detect the router as well. 5. The router will start a wizard (first time setup) for the type of connection to be used etc. I could not make the connection work that way, so go for the manual mode for configuration. You will find the instructions in the router user guide on how to do that. Enter the information there. Basically all you need is the DNS address of Reliance. Enter that information and save. 6. Ensure your PC/Laptop is setup for dynamic IP (DHCP). 7. And you are on. Key thing is - The netgear wizard doesn't seem to work and you have to have the DNS info. I cant remember if I called customer care for that though.... Hope this helps ! Good Luck ! cheers. |

Rep Power: 0 | hey bluetooth, i've been struggling to setup my linksys wireless router with my reliance broadband connection...i've been thinking its a pppoe connection (not dhcp) because of the authentication crap... can you tell me how/where you got the DNS information.. i need to put in 3 static dns addresses... also, can you confirm that wireless works fine...don't you need to keep entering username and password to be able to get online...are you still able to get that authentication page when you connect via wireless.. could really use your help ! |

Rep Power: 3 | Hi, The wireless works fine. I have been using it for 3 months now. Everytime I connect, I have to enter the username/password once to start the session. Why do you have to enter the DNS thrice ? I thought there were only 2 ? Primary & Alternate. Anyway, offhand I cant seem to remember where I got the DNS information from. I will check at home and update this thread. May be you could try calling customer care for the DNS information in the meanwhile. cheers, - Abhijeet |

Rep Power: 3 | Great to know it worked for you. The router I am using is WGR614 v4 and the wizard didnt work for that. Strogg - Here's how I found the DNS servers for Reliance. Switch on the modem. Connect the cable to the computer as you would normally do when there is no wifi. Go to the command prompt in windows. Type ipconfig /all. You will find all the information there. As I said before there are 2 DNS server addresses. I am curious to know why you need 3. Best of luck. cheers. Last edited by bluetooth; 02-16-07 at 01:18 PM. |

Rep Power: 3 | Hi Budd, thanks a ton for the reply I did think NetGear would work but was not 100% sure on that. Well lets take this discussion further Considering the Scenario uploaded at http://i19.tinypic.com/4821clc.jpg Scenario A : This is the current scenario in which my laptop connects to the Internet through the ADSL Modem provided by the Reliance Broadnet. The ADSL Modem Cannot Be Accessed by Web Interface or Telnet, it is preconfigured by the ISP in Bridge Mode so it just relays the IP address assigned by the ISP DHCP Server to the Laptop. If anyone knows how to access/configure the UTIStarCom ADSL Modem please let me know. As we know that this is not a always on Internet Connection, and requires login to Reliance Broadnet using the Web Browser,i.e. when not connected to the Internet and trying to reach any website e.g. Google automatically redirects to Reliance Broadnet Logon page and after successful authentication releases access to any other website. Scenario B is what i'm trying to achieve, where this Connection shall be shared by 3 Laptops wirelessly, without any user intervention, i.e. the annoying Reliance Broadnet Logon Page does not popup on the Client Workstation, instead the authentication is handled by the Wireless Router itself. I'm quite positive that this is possible because Reliance Broadnet has some plans for Internet access through the same DSL technology that are always on and do not require a logon to access the Internet,it's just that we are not aware of the parameters that need to be configured for the same. In case the question is confusing or not clear please let me know so that i can elaborate accordingly. Abhijeet, could you please check and let me know what happens if you are already logged on to Reliance Broadnet Portal using your laptop and try accessing the Internet from any other Computer wirelessly, does it ask for a Password,or does it even allow access to the Internet (This is something which is a Critical Question) By the way,i have configured the same with Airtel Broadband and it works like a Charm.Technical Support is Wonderful and the best part is they have SLA's for SOHO customer in the same way as it is for Enterprise Customers.Forget SLA's, Reliance Broadnet does not have anything like Customer Service in their "to be looked into" list This is what i recently wrote to Reliance Broadnet and this is what comes back from them (As Expected).I'm attaching the Complete Email Conversation with Reliance Broadband till date (I really pity on Technical Support's understanding of the Issue) ------------------------START OF THREAD------------------------------ Dear Customer, Thank you for contacting Reliance Broadband Customer Care. With reference to your mail regarding internet Connection Wirelessly, please note that presently we are not providing wireless facility with broadband , however if you still want to connect kindly contact our service administrator for the same. slow speed kindly provide us the ping and trace report so that we can process your complaint at the earliest. I want this Issue to be Escalated immediately I want a Senior Technical Person to Call me between 2-5PM weekdays to discuss this Issue further on a ASAP basis,i also need the Direct Contact Number of a Manager associated with Reliance Broadnet Customer Care. Yours sincerely, Broadband Customer Care Reliance Communications ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, This is to bring to your kind concern that I , Mohit Kumar Srivastava (Customer ID: 339230767266),Called up Technical Support for Reliance Broadnet Broadband on January 19 (10 Days Now) I had requested Information on sharing my Internet Connection Wirelessly as i have 3 Laptops which i need Wireless Access On Since then, no one has even bothered to followup this Support Request.I believed switching from Sify to Reliance would be worth, but all seems the same to me. I request you to kindly look into the matter and have the Issue attended at the earliest possible. -- Regards Mohit Kumar Srivastava ------------------------END OF THREAD------------------------------ Editing this Post for Update Term Service Administrator mentioned in the Email from Customer Care came out to be: (i) A Lame Guy trying make me forcibly understand why my demand was unreasonable. (ii)Smart Service Manager who asked me to opt for a Static IP (10,000Rs Annualy) so that i can setup wireless access for Reliance Broadnet at my place, still he had no clue when i asked him about the authentication at the Wireless Router level. Rep Power: 12 | Please do not link to the reliance website as they have stated in thier terms and cond that one has to have prior permission to link to thier website.Besides that this site ranks no1 for 'reliance broadband' and beats the crap out reliance official website so if we link to them from here thier site will gain from us which none of us wants... |

Rep Power: 3 | Hi Mohit, I understand your question and sincerely I dont think I know the answer. I tried to put the username/password for the broadnet service in the netgear router (so that I dont have to enter it everytime), but it does not seem to accept it. Mr router is older version (v4), maybe the newer ones can. If that is so, then I dont see why you cant connect 3 laptops to the router, without having to enter it on all the machines. Vinaychandra said his configuration worked with the wizard, may be he can tell us if he has given the username/password in the router and does he still have to enter it every time ? Vinay can you help ? Unfortunately I dont have more than 1 laptop to check out your request. I will keep on exploring on your request though and will update this thread when I have more info. cheers, - Abhijeet |

Rep Power: 12 | Dont know what the issue is here my friend coz your router should be able to login for you and there shouldnt be a problem connecting any number of laptops as long as the router supports that many connections at one time. I have a sify connection and it requires a loging using thier client and my netgear works just fine and connects one desktop with a cable and one desktop and laptop wirelessly. |

Rep Power: 3 | The point is, reliance does not have a "login client" software on the pc/laptop. When you are connected to the modem and enter any URL, you are first redirected to the Reliance broadnet login site and then after entering your credentials you become online. When I configure the netgear router with the username password it does not seem to work, since I assume the router is looking for a "login client". I would appreciate, if anyone can throw more light. cheers. |

Rep Power: 0 | I'm using a wireless router with Broadnet successfully. The problem is that the session timeout on their ADSL modem is 24 hours. That means you'll have to re-login every 24 hours. Very frustrating and annoying. :-/ |

Rep Power: 3 | I have the reliance broadnet in 3 different location for work and home. And successfully installed the Linksys WRTGL wireless router and a home grown linux based router. In all cases the WAN (internet) connection is DHCP. On powerup the router acquires the external IP address and DNS information using DHCP. The lan side is using NAT where the subnet is 192.168.1.0. As long this is setup correctly all the computers on lan should theoretically be able to connect to internet. Reliance connection scheme. DSL-- > [Modem]< -- DHCP --> [Router] < -- NAT/DHCP --> [Workstations] Now there is just one more step to connect workstations to the internet. The reliance broadnet connection page. The first workstation wil see this page and has to login. Other workstations wont have to repeat this. It's pretty annoying as the connection times out in 15 minutes. The fucker who thought of this is pure idiot. We have a static ip and need to provide incoming access and the stupid network is timed out. It is a non standard way of authenticating, no router in the world supports it. The standard ways are PPPoE, PPTP, LT2P, Radius etc. After some digging around I found that the login page is posting "username" and "password" to this url http://www.reliancebroadband.co.in/user/refresh/home. So to make a workaround I wrote a script that makes this submit with the reliance username and password. And run it as a cron job every 10 minutes on one of the servers. Now the session never times out and no one has to see the dumb login screen. Of course I use linux machines so it's very easy to do it. If someone is interested I can share the script. Peace A |

Rep Power: 3 | Quick question - How come your connection times out in 15 minutes ? And is this even when there is activity going on ? Secondly what is your plan ? Business or Individual ? cheers. |

Rep Power: 3 | Hmmm....that is strange. Logically there should not be a timeout if the connection is in use. I have definitely not faced the issue of timeout when the connection is in use. Have you spoken/written to customer care ? Is there something we can do ? I would certainly like standard ways of authentication, so that I save my username/password in my wifi router.... I will call customer care and try to find out what they have to say. I will update this post once I do that. cheers. |
