I was switched to the new 500kbps plan from a 300 kbps combo plan mid-June. The offer over the phone basically said for Rs 50 more I get 200 kbps additional speed. The reality was a little different. Here is what they failed to mention over the phone, thereby misleading me:
a) The 500 kbps plan is an advance billing tariff plan. What that means for existing 300 kbps plan users is that your next bill will roughly more than double because they bill for two months so as to switch from the previous billing to the advance billing.
b) The previous plan had Rs 50 in free calls. That was silently dropped. Now, all fixed line calls are chargeable.
In effect, I am charged double for the first months billing cycle and the monthly tariff has increased by more than Rs 100 rather than Rs 50 quoted over the phone. I would probably have switched to this plan even if Reliance Customer Service had given me the correct information on the new plan, instead of misleading me, as I think the plan is decent value for money...
