Reliance Broadband: Some details

Reliance broadband
has been doing pretty well in the last year or so and gaining market share very fast as compared to other private internet service providers. The only problem with reliance broadband is that it is only available in those areas which are very densely populated and have a lot of customers concentrated in one area and Reliance is ignoring other areas and especially don't have any presence in rural areas where only bsnl broadband has dared to step in being the state owned and run company.
Reliance may in the near future get into those areas as well where bsnl broadband has a monopoly just because they have their last mile already laid down years ago and have recovered the costs as well in the past years and has nothing to loose by providing adsl connections in those areas which have very few customers which is obviously going to grow with time. Reliance on the other hand has stepped into the wimax technology and has already started wimax broadband services in Bangalore and Pune which really is a great step in my opinion.

Default 3 mos are over since Oct 2006...

Where are we now with Reliance BB?

BSNL has reached my village as of 2 weeks ago, that is 4 km from its nearest tower (Eravancheri, Tiruvarur Dt, TN) thru ADSL & the speeds are felt adequate rel to what it was with R-connect (2-7 kBps download ).

They are still feeling their way thru network maintenance discipline. Often at 6-7 am when I log in, ADSL is down, till I contact the local DE around 9 am(a nice man, who still keeps me in the dark re the contact phone number for reporting to BSNL .

But when it is up it is UP!

We at our Center need a backup against the quirks of BSNL, & so we are contacting Reliance who are said to have a tower 10 km from us "anytime".

Some one sent me this message by using the contact us form on this page.. I guess he intended to post this message here so I am posting the message here :

I must say that I am thoroughly disgusted with the pathetic speeds for Reliance broadband in Bangalore and more importantly the frontline sales agents who keep misguiding prospective customers. My son got Reliance broadband installed at his house with great difficulty but due to most unreliable service rendered by this ADA group company, has already requested for cancellation of the connection just after 1 month of the installation having taken place, hopefully the usb card that he intends to take from Airtel proves to be a worthy replacement.

i agree, reliance is pathetic.I use a 150kbps connection and i hardly get speeds of upto 110kbps,a bill of around 830rs for that speed is an utter waste.i wouldnt adivse anyone to go for reliance.

110kbps speed on a 150kbps advertised plan is fairly normal in my opinion. Anything above 80% of the advertised speed is a pretty good deal I think.

How is the downtime?

the customer service is very bad too.any problem and they take an eternity to solve it and when we make queries the only reply we get is that it has been forwarded to the technical department and they are looking into it.Btw 110kbps/150kbps is not 80%,its just 73%...........and i think paying 830rs odd for 110kbps is way too much.In airtel and bsnl we are getting the promised speeds if not very close to the promised speeds.
