does anybody know how to configure the dufault UTStarcom UT-300R2 modem/router we get with our connection with a NAT and firewall.

Is it to be done with PPPOE or what? It works default at bridging configuration. Anyone has any ideas?

And how to configure modem to automatically login?

I did all that, restart router, attached it with PC and tried, Tried on lappy.

    Called hotline, and what not!

Finally, I came to know that, reliance had some all India probs today. The tech engineer who called me after my complain, said the time the connection would work and it did.

    hello morphis,
i have broadnet connection two day before and want to shared this connection via my router DI-524 dlink but unable to do that.
    i have done
    1. reset router by pressing button via ball pen
    2. wan setting , set to dynamic.

but all is vain , nothing happens, i have copy gateway address and ping 123.236.32.1 -t normally it works but when connected to router shows me Request timed out
no automatic configuration shows in router.

but when i connect directly do the system lan card then connection established and internet works.

Any way out for the 0 upload bandwidth problem?? I have taken the connection two days back and there is no upload bandwidth and am unable to login to orkut, gmail, yahoo, or any mail service for that matter...

Kindly help me out... the download speeds are always good but what purpose does it serve other than using BT? I called up their CC and the guy told me that my subscriber id isn't even registered...

I checked up the bs and getting 4 of them, out of which 2 are 0 signal strength and one is CINR 24 to which i am logged in to, and one more has cinr of 9, to which i cannot log in...

    Any solution to the problem??

    StarryKnight,
If you have 0 upload bandwidth then that explains your difficulty logging in to your mailboxs.... run a speed test and if you really have any issue call Customer Care. By now its a known issue and they will rectify it soon!

    Dear Morphix,

I really really thank you for making these pointers, I had my connection installed today and was dismayed to hear that I could only use the connection on one PC.

I must say that the reliance support guys are a sheer waste of time and if you really want to get your **** working, this forum IS IT!

I registered today to get a full digest of your posts, I spent about two hours trying to mess with my Linksys 54WRTG router settings and and finally I am online wirelessly, but I am not really sure what made it work:

    1) I made sure that My PC's Mac Address is cloned on my router. Does Reliance have any kind of MAC Level policies?

    2) I turned on Filter Internet NAT Redirection on my firewall settings in the Security Tab.

    3) I enabled DHCP and entered static DNSes from what I got on an IPConfig /all. (Setup -> Basic Setup)

    4) following that, it worked like you said.

Dis means dat for 24hrs(frm 6AM friday to 6AM saturday) u wud b assigned that particular IP address no matter how many times u log in...
Each session(i.e. for each LOGIN to its respective LOGOUT) is recorded in the reliance server SESSION DATABASE for ur account...
Each SESSION detail is the most important thing for the reliance server to hav recorded to serve u with the same IP address the next time u try to login within dat particular LEASE time...
Its same as like after having had ur breakfast u ought to hav it digested before u cud take in any for ur lunch...
Dis is the reason y the Reliance guys kip on telling to logout after each surfing session...
IF U FOLLOW THIS SIMPLE STEP MUCH OF UR IP RELATED PROBLEMS WILL GET SOLVED...
Now u can chk it out that...after u have ur completed dat particular TIME LEASE(24hrs) for the IP 124.125.226.150...
the next day whn u logon for the first time, suppose at 2pm...u'l again b assigned with a new IP address (eg: 124.125.226.80) which wud b valid for the next 24hrs...
i WANT TO OVERCOME THIS PROB. I WANT TO GET NEW IP EVERYTIME I REFRESH MY CONNECTION.

somebody atleast give solution to REFRESH this IP or RESET the time

I think Reliance has uncapped bandwidth to their login portal and all it's related files/documents. Despite being on a 300kbps plan, I get speeds equivalent to 2 MBps when i download their pdf files, or programs.

<post mearge even after so a many hours?? anyway, my next post here.>

I finally got the wifi to work. ^_^

I followed morphis' advice. Incase someone was confused, i'll write it down in my own way. I used a Dlink DIR 300 router, but that never makes a difference. All routers have the same settings fields. hunt around for them.

Initial setup of the system, before I started messing around with the wifi idea in my head:

Antenna >> CPE (whitebox) >> Computer

    And now we start:
Power off the wifi router. Although there seems to be no logical need to power off the CPE, I turned it off. Sadly, I had to wait about an hour before the thing got assigned an ip by reliance's DHCP server.

    1) log in and log out of reliance boradband from reliancebroadband[dot]co[dot]in

    3) Pull out the RJ45 wire (aka LAN cable) coming from the computer and plug it into the "Internet" port (referd to as "WAN" on a linksys router)
    4) Connect one of the "LAN / PC" port of the router into the same LAN port you just pulled the wire out of in step 2.
    5) Now, the setup should be like:
Antenna >> CPE >> Wifi router >> Computer

[Sidenote: Ideally, your LAN settings are set to "automatically aquire ip address" and similary, auto DNS. There is no need to change this for accessing the Dlink DIR 300 wifi router that I used. [I am pointing this out here, coz I always have to set my ip address to "192.168.1.x" and keep default gateway to "192.168.1.1" to access my reliance CPE (whitebox). Enough about this.]

    6) in your web browser's address bar, enter the ip address of the router that will take you to the settings page / homepage of your router. Check your router's documentation if you don't know. Common locations of this settings page are:

192.168.1.1 [reliance CPE also uses this]
192.168.0.1 [this is the default for my dlink wifi router]

This, essentially, is the router's own ip address, and whenever your PC tried to go there, the router will display a webpage with a login screen to let you access it's settings.

    common user/pass combinations:
    admin/admin
    user/<nopass>
admin/<nopass> [this was the case in my dlink DIR 300]

    7) Once there, set the internet connection up manually.
Here are some of the things you have to keep in mind while setting the connetion up:

    type: DHCP [not pppoe, etc...]

MAC Address: copy your PC's MAC address.
If you cannot copy, make a note of your MAC address. I believe using the command "ipconfig /all" in DOS when you are connected to the internet via reliance wimax will also let you see your mac address. I believe, that MAC address is session depenedent, so I did not reconnect between the time I last logged out and start setting up the router.

My router had a button to automatically copy the MAC address to the router. [The MAC address is an identifier for your machine. essentially, the reliance server should now think that your router is, infact, your PC]

DNS: I left this blank. That essentially meant that the DNS server addresses would be automatically obtained

I think this is about it. I didnt touch any other settings.

    8) I saved the settings, and then proceeded to set up my wireless settings of the router.

I gave my connection a personalised name, selected the WEP security method, set a decently long password, and saved these settings as well.

    9) Then, I waited for a *long* time. I was panicing. I didn't know whether it would work or not, whether the connection not working was due to the CPE not getting an IP, or due to a problem with my settings themselves...

    10) after about an hour, I found that the reliance login page wasn't opening, but takin a lucky shot, i tried to go to it's ip. "10.239.89.15/home" corresponds to reliance broadband[dot]co[dot]in. I used that, and I was able to see the login page, and log in from my PC.

    -------------------------
    Testing:

I checked the wifi broadcast on my laptop. it worked, with regular surfing speeds. I disabled the LAN port leading to the router, and turned on the wifi card on my PC. Even this worked. To further test it, I logged out from my laptop, and logged in from my PC. (using the same ip address i'd pointed out in point 10) It worked.

I'll keep posting back here if I run into any complications over the next few days.

I'm afraid that's dependent on reliance.

HM... MAC Address is not session dependent, Infact. it's a permanent feature of your LAN hardware. :/
