Rep Power: 2 | hi the thread , i must say is very comprehensive. Ok the issue that i face is as follows i have configured the router wrt54g2 as advised in ur thread, however when i try to reconnect to the net the next day after switching on the POE and the router i am not able to connect. I get so frustrated at times, that i was thinking of getting fixed IP from Reliance, but they charge 2000 bukcs a year so i dropped it. Pls help provide a resolution to this. I also have a norton internet security 2009 installed on my system. I use a vist home basic operating system |

HMM.... Do you sign out from the reliance home page before you turn off the POE? Right now, I can only think about that as a possible problem. Quote:
I have a login script that runs in an html page that i run in a secondary browser that, on every startup, goes to the page, and hides itself in the background so that it doesn't come in the way, and can't be closed from the desktop or task bar. It's proved to be very effective in keeping my PC online for upto 2 weeks. (I had to reboot my system for windows updates after that) But the point is, it works. Rep Power: 0 | Hi, I have D-link router behind reliance modem and I connect to Internet by login into reliance site and use internet. Now, I want to keep my connection to internet even when my PC is not up and using just router. I know reliance does not support PPPoE or any other standard protocol. Is this possible? -Sam |

Rep Power: 2 | Au contraire, cool_techie, its very possible. You need two things : 1) Flash your router to DD-wrt firmware. It's free linux based firmware that has been developed for many wifi routers. I've done the same on my dlink dir300 and my linksys wrt54g. it require a decent level of technical know-how. DD-wrt is one of the most popular custom firmwares out there, and google search will get you all the guides and info and the software required to set up the same. 2) Knowledge of linux commands. DD wrt being a linux based firmware, will support *nix commands. IF you are familliar with linux, you could program a cron job to keep you logged into reliance. I, however, do not know how do to this, or know anyone who knows linux well enough to do this, so I have not been able to set up the script. Anyone who thinks they have a solution here is more than welcome to offer their suggestions. |

And secondly, DD wrt supports most of the popular routers. Most of the people on these forums use wifi routers from dlink or linksys.

Yes, I do have router running DD-WRT and Tomato firmware for other location but this router is old 514 and can't run it. I guess, I am going to change my internet connection to some other ISP like BSNL. do you guys know if BSNL or other ISP that you suggest can run PPPoE? I don't need very high speed Internet. 100-250kbps connection is fine but I need unlimited one. I am planning to run some voice with ATA connected to d-link router. Any suggestion on ISP and specific plan? I am in Surat, GJ. Thanks,

Rep Power: 2 | Theoretically, it might work. But most people change their passwords. And you might not find an account on a 2 mbps connection in the first place. Oh, and if you're caught, be prepared to face charges of hacking. It's a very serious crime ever since someoen decided that using an unsecured network to send terror emails is called "hacking".. |

Rep Power: 2 | bro, in ur testing u tested wifi connection on a single computer at a time. have u tested your wifi connection in which you can use 2 laptops simultaneously? because what iam looking for is letting wifi router broadcast the signals and any one of the laptop will login to relaince website and once connected 2nd can use the same connection without logging onto reliance website.. |

Rep Power: 2 | Yeh. I have two PCs, one laptop and three other wifi enabled devices in the house. They all work fine, and anyone of them can login to the reliance website to let everyone of those devices access to internet. ^_^ |

Rep Power: 2 | thx for the reply.. iam just writing the steps ur said in ur ealrier posr in my way let me know if iam correct. presently i have 1 wired modem and a laptop connected to it with a lan wire. i log on to reliance website and internet works fine. now i get a wifi router netgear n max 300. connect it after modem. take a lan wire out of LAN port of wifi router to laptop(this step is for configuring router right?) logn to router by 192.168.1.1 and setup as u said... clone the mac id of laptop to router and setting it to autmotically get ip from server. and then switch on the WAN port of router. remove that lan wire which i used to setup router. connect 1st laptop to router using wifi. logon to reliance webiste and get connected to internet. now when i introdeuce 2nd laptop do i have to clone the mac id of 1st laptop to the 2nd laptop or it will automatically get connected to internet without login on to reliance website? and if i switch on the 2nd laptop before 1st will teh above procedure work? regards gurpal |

Rep Power: 2 | The idea behind cloning your mac id is that the reliance software thinks that your router is actually your laptop. You see, the session is bound to your mac address. If you do not do the mac cloning, then the reliance software will detect a different device trying to log into the connection with the same id/pass. Now, once you have set it up, you can log in from any PC/laptop that is behind your wifi router. The cloning is done so that after you're logged into reliance from your PC, the switching of cables from PC to wifirouter should not result in a conflicting mac address. In short, you do not need to clone any more mac addresses. Last edited by taurius1; 03-11-09 at 02:25 PM. |

Rep Power: 2 | Yes it will connect. As long as you have a MAC associated with a NIC from a computer as opposed to a router that shows up to Reliance it will work. You can connect from any laptop/computer. Since they are on this side of the router Reliance has no way of seeing what you have connected. |
