    Dont panic.

What service are you using? Just internet or phone?
Do you pay the bills on time, and you get the acknowledgment for that? Then why worry? If dues are there, check your billing details.

I feel, TRAI should make it Mandatory for ISPs to disconnect the services to the customer if a bill is not paid within due date or with penalty, and inform the customer in writing, settlement of dues , if any against security deposit. ( credit or debit )

Any further billing beyond this date should be considered Negligence of service on part of ISP and the consumer need not pay any amount
other than for the month ( say Mar 2011) following last PAID Month(Feb 2011). Even this is not permitted if customer can show proof of Notice of disconnection, by surrendering telephone instrument , Modems etc and show a valid receipt from the ISP CSC ( customer Service centers ) or an email acknowledgement.

Did you get monthly bills regularly / with consolidated amount due ?
What the bill copy mentions : for NON payment by DUE Date ?
You still have telephone Modem etc if supplied by Reliance?
Any facility to check details Online bill details at their web sites.
What was the maximum and minimum bill amount Paid by you ?
    Any security deposit made ?

Average Rs 6000/= Per month only means International Phone calls
and or excess surfing in internet. ( beyond quota allowed )

You have a problem now. Now the "goons" collection Agents will call at all odd times to insist on payment!!

    Hi,

Before deciding what to do, make a call to the customer care. I hope that you were using their phone services as well. So, tell them your no, and see your "status" as in their system. Moreover, what method were you using to make the payment? Cheque/online payment?? You would have some details/ref no? That will help, and you in fact can send a legal notice against them since they are trying to harass you even after you made the payment on time!!

    Keep us updated.

    Regards
    Nevin.

This is Nida Elahi Khan from Mumbai.
Few Years back my Society had Powersurfer.net broadband connection and I had paid Rs. 28,000/- and Rs. Rs. 22,350/- in favor of LEAP telecom (payee for POwersurfer.net) for 2 broadband connections as advance for entire year. However after some months Reliance Broaband took over Powersurfer company and started sending monthly bills for these connections to me even though I had paid for the entire year. Even after repeated complaints and submitting the Bank statements and cheque details to their Headoffice in Kandivli I still get calls threatening me with legal action and they claim that if i dont pay up amounts of Rs. 9440 and Rs. 7720 they will issue a warrant for my arrest and I will have to pay Rs. 1,50,000 and go to Delhi to attend court hearings.

Earlier they tried visiting and harassing me then kept calling and harassing.

But Today I was called by a PRO Officer from Delhi Inspector Singh Rathore threatening me to pay the amounts within an hour else i would face an arrest warrant and would have to pay Rs.1,50,000 /- and attend Delhi court hearings.

I cant believe Reliance Broadband can be such gangsters and careless about their customers. I have so many other bills of Reliance which i pay monthly cause they are correct but i refuse to pay incorrect bills due to their threats. I have now applied to change all my electricity to Tata and will consider change of all other Reliance connections soon.

The Court should fine this company in such cases of threats. All consumers who face such issues need to unite and fight them collectively.

    Regards,
    Nida Elahi Khan.

    Hi Nida,

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Reliance has "this type" of payment method from a very early time. If you remember, when mobile phones were first introduced in India, Reliance used to give the phones, along with the connection free/contract basis. There were a lot of consumers, but eventually when the contract expired no one repaid the rest of the money that they owed to Reliace. The company was forced to open up this unethical way of getting the money back as they suffered a great blow.

Now that they are back in businees, booming I hope they are continuing this way which is totally not acceptable. As I have already advised other users, I'd suggest to call up the custmor care and raise your issue. If they are responding in a negetive way then the only way out of this is to move legally aganist them. Try to meet a lawer, and make sure that you have all the suppoting documents.

I myself am using their broadband services, but I ensure that I keep the records of payment I made to them. Dont trust anyone.

    Good luck.
    Nevin.
