Thread: Reliance Broadband Threat for incorrect bill+Blackmail

This is Nida Elahi Khan from Mumbai.
Few Years back my Society had Powersurfer.net broadband connection and I had paid Rs. 28,000/- and Rs. Rs. 22,350/- in favor of LEAP telecom (payee for POwersurfer.net) for 2 broadband connections as advance for entire year. However after some months Reliance Broaband took over Powersurfer company and started sending monthly bills for these connections to me even though I had paid for the entire year. Even after repeated complaints and submitting the Bank statements and cheque details to their Headoffice in Kandivli I still get calls threatening me with legal action and they claim that if i dont pay up amounts of Rs. 9440 and Rs. 7720 they will issue a warrant for my arrest and I will have to pay Rs. 1,50,000 and go to Delhi to attend court hearings.

Earlier they tried visiting and harassing me then kept calling and harassing.

But Today I was called by a PRO Officer from Delhi Inspector Singh Rathore threatening me to pay the amounts within an hour else i would face an arrest warrant and would have to pay Rs.1,50,000 /- and attend Delhi court hearings.

I cant believe Reliance Broadband can be such gangsters and careless about their customers. I have so many other bills of Reliance which i pay monthly cause they are correct but i refuse to pay incorrect bills due to their threats. I have now applied to change all my electricity to Tata and will consider change of all other Reliance connections soon.

The Court should fine this company in such cases of threats. All consumers who face such issues need to unite and fight them collectively.

A police instector could loose his job for threatening you with the words you say he did. He/she has no authority to issue arrest warrents its the court that does it and I had exactly similar threats and I didint spare any "gali" in my dictionary and told them that Reliance ows me the money not me and they can **** off. Its been a while now and I havent recieved any more letters or calls. I guess they got the hint that I am not going to pay them any money that I dont owe them.
Reliance customer care is dumb. I had to get my connection disconnected because no one would turn up to look at it as it was down for weeks and they kept billing me even though the connection was down.

Reliance should be barred from providing any broadband service unless they start taking care of their customers and start treating them like human beings.

Do you have
1. receipts from Powersurfer indicating that you have paid advance rental for a defined period?
2. bills from Reliance indicating that you need to pay for the same period?

if yes to both, next time some one calls you tell them that you have copies of both indicating that reliance has raised duplicate charges for the same period and that you are going to file a case in mumbai court against them for deficiency in service and also for causing harassment.

i'm sure you would not receive a single call thereafter.

a police officer can't go that far he has no rights.

I have already submitted the Cheque details i.e. Bank statements to their headoffice. But will definitely mention about filing case in Mumbai court next time

Hi Nidhi,
I have got a similar call just now. The guy was threatening me that if I dont pay the bill they would issue an arrest warrant against my name and put a case on me at Delhi high court. Did anything happen to your case or it went cold? Are these fake calls?

They cant just take you to High court just like that. They would have to go to lower courts first. If they really have a case against you they might file a case against you depending on how much you owe them if you do. I did not owe them any money so I just stood my ground as I had decided that I am not going to pay anything because I don't owe them no matter what but if you really owe them some money just pay up and get a receipt in return.

Well i think these are just fake threats. How can any1 in his right mind claim he will issue arrest warrant for defaulting on incorrect bilsl :P

So far no more calls yet... will keep u updated if he harasses me again. Hope Reliance customer care starts actually caring for customers
