Default Configure D-Link Wireless Router with Reliance BroadNet

    Hi All,

I have got my Reliance BroadNet connection today. They haven't provide me any modem or such. Just I have to connect the cable to my laptop and login to reliance website using my username/password and I am able to access the internet.

I tried to configure my D-Link Wireless router and after configuration, reliance website is coming up but when I enter my username/password, getting an "Authentication Failed" error.

Does anybody faced this kind of situation and how to resolve it. I would appreciate any help in this regard.

    Regards,
    Inderpal Singh

    Default Resolution

    Hi Friend,

I faced same problem from yesterday night(20.11.2007) i.e Authentication Failed... But Now solved921.11.2007 10pm)

    These r two steps...

    1. Call Customer Care plz tell u r getting authentication failed..Surely they reset the password to broadnet.. then u might access ur login page...

    2. Even after u r not able access ur login page..u again call Customer care tell same problem aris.. Then they resolve this issue with their server side.. Surely this resolve ur problem..

Plz tell me how to configure broadnet with D-Link router

Authentication Failed problem is coming only when I use Internet using my D-Link wireless router

If I use internet directly (by connecting cable to my laptop), there is no authentication failed problem.

I just had a chat with Customer Care and he said because its a single login account, I wont be able to use the wireless router. Is that so?

Yes, some Reliance prepaid and postpaid plans doesn't support multiple login or NAT. So you will get authentication failed error when trying to login if its a simultaneous login attempt. To resolve this problem you need to switch over to a concurrent session enabled plan.

Even before reaching the login stage, the router needs to get an IP address.. This is where Reliance stops is the IP address request comes from a router..

They appear to be using DHCP Option 60 (Vendor Class Identifier) to reject IP address to the router clients.

The good news is that I have successfully configured my D-Link wireless router with Reliance BroadNet connection.

The next problem which I am facing is, net connection is damn slow through wireless. Page loading takes hell lot of time and its so much frustrating.

If I connect cable directly, NET speed is so good. I am not sure if I missed any configuration setting in my wireless router as there is nothing as such which needs to be configured.

Sujay, Reliance folks are not allowing sharing of the 'Wimax' connection. Pl. note that this applies only to Wimax connections. They allowed it initially and later stopped. And new development is that they are blocking even Linux boxes. I tried to use a Linux box as a Wifi router (I had a spare laptop which I converted into a Wifi router). Now the Linux box too doesn't get DHCP address.. I am planning to modify my Linux DHCP Client to fake that it is a Windows box. Will post you once I am done..

In the meantime I begged my neighbor to open his BSNL wifi to me so that I won't lose my job.. You can't depend on Reliance connection for anything serious like connecting to your office VPN etc.. Their customer care told me that they provide internet connection to the consumers for 'entertainment purpose only' :-)

Its not just reliance.. thats true for every isp in India, one has to keep some backup to keep working and for that sake I now have three connections.. two wireless ( reliance data card and airtel data card) and a sify cable connection.

M not sure if that is true ... or may b unknowingly i m making my Linux box pose as windows... Use
    dhcpcd eth0
sometime after the modem is switched on ... there is a definite latency in linux but i eventually get an IP... surprisingly it did not work wen i had avahi ... Lemme kno if that helped

Angry Not getting ip for linux box.

I too am not able to get an ip for linux. I wonder why these isp's treat consumers as trash. They act as if we are doing some kind of a service to them..

I am doing that all this time. That is not the solution. I would still need windows to get the ip and I have a machine which has only linux. I have enquired with them and the complaint was closed without being resolved. I wonder why nobody has complained abt this.

    nascentmind,

I did complain about this once.. They closed my complaint without resolving it.

They copied their DHCP server rules scripts from a US service provider and they themselves don't know how to edit them.. :-)

May be they will take help from Sify folks this time and solve it if lot of subscribers complain about it :-D

I am ready too.. But there is a catch in this.. Reliance never mentioned that they would support Routers or Linux boxes..

PK_Rulz: I re-imaged my Linux box with Ubuntu 7.1 and left for work in the morning today. When I checked in the evening, this box got an IP address!!

May be it is taking too much time to get an IP address, I need to debug it in the evening..

    Cruise,

It might be the last ip which worked out for you. Atleast dhcpcd does that. Can you tell when you last got the ip from any logs?

    This may work for U
    Solution by atanuray11
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/relian...nce-wimax.html

By the way I also recommend flashing ur router with dd-wrt www.dd-wrt.com
IMP : Read their wiki before flashing ur router it may end as useless as brick (called bricked router)

May we can come with a hack soon rather than that work around

For any wireless SOHO Router, the basic configuration includes Connection Types on the Router Setup page.

Reliance Wimax will be Dynamic (DHCP)

    Step 1 :

Connect the Wimax wire from the wall outlet (power adapter provided by Reliance) to the computer directly. The computer must be in DHCP mode.
Check the IP Address of the Computer. It should be a public IP Address.

    Step 2 :

Open a web browser. If you try to open any page, it will take you directly to the Reliance Broadnet Login page. Login with your Reliance User ID and Password. Then Log out.
    Close the web browser.

    Step 3 :

Now, connect the wimax wire to the WAN Port on the Router and the computer to any LAN port. You can open the Router Setup Page. Do MAC Cloning. Then, save changes. Run DHCP on the Router.
Also you can configure wireless network, by changing the SSID and security.

    Step 4 :

On the wired computer, open web browser, go to Reliance Broadnet login page and login and start enjoying the service.

One problem, you might face is when the Router is turned off in between. You may have to repeat the Steps 1,2 & 3 to get the connection back.

Reliance wimax connection functions very well on Linksys WRT54G Router.

I would love to get feedback on the troubleshooting at

    Hi Inderpal Singh,
I got DLink wireless router. In the wizard, what type of connection we have to select. PPPoE or DHCP. In case of PPPoE, its just asking for username and password. Where do we need to specifiy the DNS primary server and secondary server information.
What are the steps you followed to make the wireless router work.

    let me know,
    thanks

I got this SO CALLED WiMAX installed 2 days back and the best and THE ONLY GOOD THIS IS THE SPEED. I was all thrilled and got myself a WRT54G Linksys SOHO router. I have supported this product long time back but glad that the interfaces were fresh in my mind. I thought this is a PPPoE connection and did the necessary setup on the router.. Kaput!!! then I did a MAC clone from my PC to the router, changed the router ip to 192.168.1.2, SET THE INTERNET CONNECTION TYPE AS "AUTOMATICLY ATTAIN IP" and guess what the router got an 124.125.. ip address that it is supposed to..

Now 1 and the only 1 thing that amazes me is i no longer have to put my username and password to access internet... it takes it by itself...

Any suggestions on attaining an ip from this STUPID and USELESS modem bit quicker?? anyone??

    Best Sunil

Smile Reliance Wimax setup with Linksys 54G Router

    Hey Guys,

I too had the same problem of configuring the Wimax on a Linksys Wi-Fi router. I struggled for more than 2 weeks trying to make wimax work on linksys router and finally i made it.
The advantage with the below setup is u dont require to setup any linux box DHCP server or perform ICS connection.
The below steps are simple and straight forward.

I just did the following steps :

    Step:1

Plug the reliance wimax RJ45 cable to WAN port of the router.

    Step:2

Wait till ur router gets the public DHCP IP address. Sometimes ur router might get the IP address immediately or some times it takes more than 10-15 mins. Not sure y?

    Step:3

Change the DNS IP on the wi-fi router IP address pool.. i.e.,

change the DNS IP of the router -192.168.1.1 to reliance wimax public DNS IP address 220.225.236.84

Pls note, reliance have blocked the ICMP therefore u cannot ping to any reliance IP's . U would get request time out.

    Step:4

Switch on the wi-fi on ur laptop and check for the IP address and ensure ur laptop DNS IP is 220.225.236.84. Perform DNS test: NSLOOKUP google.com and check whether IP's get resolved.

    Step:5

Logon to reliancebroadband.co.in and start browsing.....

    Thanks,
    Prashanth

    Default Net Gear

    Hi,

Plug the reliance wimax internet cable to WAN port of the Net Gear switch and from the management portal of net gear check for the IP address assigned to the net gear switch. Once ur Net gear wireless router gets the IP address. Switch on the wi-fi on ur laptop and check for browsing some sites.

    Hopefully it should work.

    regards,
    Prashanth

Default Reliance broadband connection: Authentication failed

    Hi All,

I have a reliance internet broadband connection which is a single user plan and I can connect through lan cable. But since I want to connect 2 laptops simultaneously to internet, I have configured a Wi-fi router for the same. For few days it was working fine, but recently when I try to login, it gives me authentication failed error message.
Whenever I call to customer care, thet say that my previous session is already logged in and it gets automatically logout if I leave my laptop idle for 30 mins or after a maximum duration for 6 hours.
But I am getting this authentication failed problem even whn i try to login after 12 hrs or so.And then I have to ask customer care to reset my password, and only after an hour or two, I am able to use it.
Its really bugging to see this error everyday. Can anybody tell me what should I do about it?
Customer care is of no avail and i have alreay invested on reilance broadnet, so i dont want to switch to another provider.
Is this issue related to cnfiguration of router.? It would be really helpful if anybody can provide some solution.

Try having the router in dynamic/MER mode, so that only the router's MAC is sent to the ISP.
