digiscripter.....

There is a difference in kbps and KBps.....
mind what you use to avoid unnecessary confusion...
1KBps is approximately equal to 9kbps.
reliance offers 75kbps which is approximately equal to 75/9 = 8.xyz KBps.

Aap thode right ho thode wrong

1 Byte = 8 Bit not 9

and

1 Kilo Byte (KB) = 8 Kilo bit (Kb)

In computers nothing is approximately equal to

so for 75Kbps it is 75/8 = 9.3 KBps

you should also consider the difference between 'k' and 'K'...
1 kb = 1000 bytes where as 1 Kb = 1024 bytes...

so 75 kbps is 75000 bps = 75000/1024 Kbps = 75000/(1024 * 8) KBps
= 9.1552734 KBps

rahul2142 is correct.

Whenever we refer to the acronym kb we always think as 1 kb = 1024 bytes. Not so for many vendors. For example, if you purchase a 1GB USB pen drive and wonder why when you connect it, it shows capacity as 0.9313 GB? That is because the manufcaturer specifies 1 kb = 1000 bytes.

In any case 75 kbps does not qualify as broadband.

Thank you...
but you are making the same mistake as digiscripter...
there is a difference between k and K; b and B; g and G;

1 kb = 1000 bits NOT Byte...

you must have purchased 1gB pen drive not 1GB... if you encounter this problem...

manufacturers have to be correct with capitals else they get fined....

I have not purchased anything. That was just an example.

To be more precise, the word bits does not figure in any other hardware/software product except broadband. At all other places it is always bytes, e.g., capacity of hard disk, pen drive, zip drive, etc.

The words kilo, mega, giga, etc. are misleading in these cases where they use the pure metric system to represent what they are instead of the equivalent binary terms.

Cool for Clarity..

Soo many things being said in this thread...just wanted to clarify everything once and for all regarding Reliance Broadnet 75kbps.

IT IS NOT BROADBAND AT ALL. [That bastard Anil Ambani branded it Broadnet to confuse the consumers!!! We should start a petition to take him to the consumer court. I'll call that JAAGO GRAHAK no. 1600-11-4000 after finishing up this post]

MAX download speed = 9.5 [never mind the metrics, that is the number you'll get to see on your preferred download manager]

Havnt even thought about uploading anything considering the pathetic speed, so dont have upload speed specifics.

Conclusion:
I implore you fellow broadband fanatics to complaint as well and bring down this shitty corporate attitude, treating customers as a garbage bin to dump their crap...STAND UP and be counted...dont keep waiting for someone else to do it!!.. WE ARE THE NEW INDIA...lets kill those bitches
