Rep Power: 10 | I have used three different data cards till now and they are airtel data card, tata indicom data card and reliance data card.. The first one I had was airtel data card and it does work very well in those areas where they have edge services enabled but like you I have to travel a lot as well and once go out of delhi Airtel sucks big time and even google home page will keep you waiting for ages to load.. so I switched to tata indicom which I dont even want to remember... tata indicom is useless both reliability wise and speed its just a waste of time. I am using reliance data card now and I am very happy with the reliable fast connection. I paid up for 12 months @650 a month and got the data card free with the deal and I get 1GB a month limit which is more then enough for my needs as I only need it for browsing and reading my mails on the go The best thing I like about reliance data card is that it works almost every where even in the middle of no where... I normally commute between Newdelhi, Jallandhar and Chandigarh and between Delhi and Jallandhar by road I dont remember loosing connection even once and between Delhi and Chandigarh there is just one stretch of about 5-6 kilometers which doesnt have very good reception. I hope my experience will help you to choose your new data card

Rep Power: 0 | Thanks for the information. I have a doubt, does the speed of data cards also vary based on the number of persons using like in wired connection? Does speed depends on the tower near or far? |

Rep Power: 10 | Yes it does depend on the strength of the signal.. the closer to the tower the better. If you dont travel a lot and are in an area where either airtel or other service provider has edge enabled then go for it otherwise reliance data card would be the best option but do get a demo before you buy anything. For those who travel across the country a lot there is no better option then reliance data card. |

Rep Power: 0 | what matters is where do u live? i live in nagpur and have been using tata indicom plug and surf usb modem, after using airtel ( edge), reliance data card ( which i got free with my laptop) , i have travelled with my tata usb in maharashtra and i have found it to be best. they provide free a software called speed+ which uses some kind of compression techniques to open websites faster by atleast at twice the speed of it would normally give without it. which is around 15KB/SEC when i download torrent files. |

Rep Power: 7 | My office gave me Tata Indicom card which I used for about a couple of months mostly without issues. Then I went abroad and returned the card. After a month and half when I returned I was given Reliance Data Card. That also worked mostly well. When I say both cards worked "mostly" well, I meant that they worked well for internet. The promised speed was 144 kbps but I usually got 96 kbps. The Reliance card stopped working for 3 days after a month. The helpline was prompt but they said some maintenance work was going on in my area. I think that was not correct because my card was not working at home or office (17 km away) whereas my colleague's Reliance card was working. Anyway the card started working after 3 days. But my main problem was with VPN. I used to work for our client and used to dial in via VPN and SecurId Key FOB. The connection used to get broken every 3-5 minutes. The Tata Indicom or Reliance people were unable to sort that out. The card cost was close to Rs. 4000/- and the plan was Rs. 650/- pm. Of course my office was paying that. Because of this VPN issue I returned the card back. So other than that I do not have much to complain.

Rep Power: 0 | Thank you all for your valuable replies, what I understood is the performance and customer support are changed from place to place, and only local users can judge actual speed and support, it can be either reliance or tata, I must take a demo at my place before using, or consult some friends already using. |

Rep Power: 2 | Reliance does have a good wireless internet service. So if you are going in with there datacard service then it would be nice to get one as you would not face any problem with them in this field. |
