Thumbs down Wimax - here is something you should read

Is WiMax a Failure ? Tata Communications acknowledges shortcomings
March 24th, 2008

At the international WiMax conference in Bangkok, Buzz Broadband CEO, Garth Freeman called the WiMax technology as a disaster that failed miserably and closed the networks. Mr. Freeman said,

In other parts of the world, citywide Wi-Fi is losing steam,

WiMAX may not work. The technology is mired in opportunistic hype. The technology had indoor coverage issues, which he yesterday said had earned him a quick and negative reaction at the time from his supplier, Airspan.

His words stunned many at the conference. Tata Communications [formerly VSNL] has also acknowledged indoor loss at just 200m from the base station at an IEEE conference last year. [This makes sense from the countless complaints received from consumers on this blog and forum] This is a serious setback to Indian telcos and the DoT which have set ambitious targets on broadband penetration.

Thumbs down Good to know

Its good to know that condition is not worse as earlier. I am sure these guys can manage this hi end network much better. But there seems to be a very poor level of expertise available with them, that they are unable to manage the network properly. Atleast upto the expectations of the customers.

Above all the customer service in the name of Customer care. Poorest of customer care.. I had raised a ticket for reverting my static IP provision to dynamic IP. To my shock i got a confirmation call from a technical guy, if i am sure about disconnection. This is the level of service they are offering.

PATHETIC

Nodal officers also seem to have got used to this lathargic attitude of customer service. Nobody seems to be taking the problems seriously.

Thumbs down DHCP issues

DHCP issues have come down drastically. Its true because IP pool has been increased in every BS. This is a news from the local technical team.

And FYI, underprovisioning is still there in some of the areas. Hence, upload problems are more likely to prevail. unlike to the earlier situation, this time it should be discrete.

Default 20 days and they werent able to configure

they did
they pondered
they strugggled to get stable signal for my static IP.

for almost20 days.... and i had no connectivity until then.

SO, GOT FED UP AND REVERTED BACK TO DYNAMIC IP. NOW, NO NEWS ABOUT WHY THEY ARE STILL TAKING MORE TIME TO REVERT.
