Yes you will need to use modem provided by reliance only

The modem you are referring in your laptop is the dial up modem which has an RJ11 connector and will connect to your regular phone line and you will be on a dial up connection

To use a DSL connection you will have to use the modem provided by reliance

    Regarding your second query

Can you check if you have an IP assigned?

Go to command prompt and type ipconfig /all

If you see an IP like 169.XXX.XXX.XXX
Then you are having IP problem, then welcome to the club

Else if the IP is some thing other than 169 then trying putting (http://220.224.142.229) in your browser and see if the page loads up this is the IP address of (www.reliancebroadband.co.in)

This means that you have not been assigned IP

This is the default IP you get it the DHCP does not assign an IP

    try the following

    in command prompt ipconfig /flushdns

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

Try release/renew command mentioned above couple of time and the IP should get assigned.

if it does not, leave your computer for an hour or so and then try again

I have this problem regularly and this is a normal in reliance broadband, see other post for more details
when this happen i just switch off the comp for a 2 hr and then try again
