Question Router question

Hey Susheel, I have a question for you. Are there any particular settings that are needed to use a wireless router with Reliance Wimax? A lot of members are having issues getting an IP when using a router with a Wimax connection.

Nothing works in reliance wimax

forget getting an IP when using a router

I am not able to get an IP with out the router also, just the normal connection

My net was down for more than 5 days now and reliance kept saying that they will send some one over to check what is wrong

I had checked my system and their was no signal at all
Reliance told me that their is a problem at my house and that someone will come to check, no one came

All of a sudden it started working yesterday, if some thing was wrong at my end how did it get resolved with out getting rectified at my place

Reliance wimax are bunch of lairs

Reliance is the worst ISP next to Sify

Delhi ppl , DO NOT GO FOR RELIANCE WIMAX

I'm from banglore, i've been using reliance wimax for the last 3-4 months. And i have the wifi router installed at home. Except for occasional ip issues, (may be once a month) its been working quite satisfactorily.

Bisu you are one lucky guy

I am sure you had done something really really good to Reliance in the past life that you wimax works without any issue

I hope that i do something good in this life so that the connection in my next life will be fine from reliance

In fact i am doing good in my this life to reliance, just paying them for no service, no connection, no customer care

well, yeah, i'll probably attribute abt 60%-70% of it to luck. I actually did not have any other servcier provider near my area besides reliance. I had BSNL in my old house, but after i shifted, BSNL took like 9 month to only x'fer my connection to the new house, and the BSNL main office is 1 KM away from my house..

Then the relaince dudes came and set up the antenna and stuff, and it started working, then in less than 24 hrs... bam!!.. no IP!!!
so, i called them and started googling.. and found loads and loads of bad stuff abt reliance wimax.. depressed me for a while, and the 1st month there were IP issues every alterate day for abt 10-15 days. Then my router came... the reliance tech had no frekaing idea what to do with the blue box ( I have a linksys) and basicaly looked at it with no clu abt what to do with it... and it was the 1st time he probably saw a routers web interface.
So, i got to work and set it up my self.... today i ahve 1 desk top (wired), 1 laptop, 1 PDA and one sony PSP all wireless wokring with the router.

I guess the luckiest part is that reliance improved the IP pool at my base stationso, getting an IP is not a big problem any more... and heavens know, NO IP = NO feaking net. so, now except soemtimes it works fine...

although, i want to add... my laptop is always 'on' and has a battery back up of abt 3.5-4.5 hrs in case of power failure, and i bought a UPS and connected that to the relaicne wimax power sully and the router, so, i have minimised losing an IP in case of normal short duration powercuts also. Perhaps that helps a bit to, because, my IP doe snot return even during power failures most of the times.
by the way, gardencityboy, which area of banaglore do u live in?

I am form Rajarajeshwarinagar

My wimax was down from the past 5 days with no IP
I have complained and complained but no use as their is no customer care department in reliance and they don't know what is the meaning of customer care

They kept saying that the issue is with my antenna and that some one will come from the day i made the complaint but as normal reliance service, no one came

Finally today it is up and running without any one having a look at it

i don't understand why they have to lie about the issue
if they have a issue at their end they should tell the customer

if i had any other ISP in my area i would have taken it with closed eyes

I had BSNL before in my old house and not a single day i had a downtime in 1 year

Now a days i have to go home late form office as i cannot trust reliance will be up or not so i have to take all my conf call from office.

With BSNL i used to go home without any worry and it would work without any issue every single time

umm.. u're rite... for conf call, and office work that is critical, i definately do not think reliance is dependable. I tried once and it backfired quite scarily..

I do have a couple of observations from when the guys came to install the thing at my house.

1. Near my house, (i live near kalyan nagar bus depo, outer ring road) i ahve abt 4 reliance towers. I was getting signal from abt 2 of those. the guy who came installed it to the tower with maximum signal. It helps if teh tower is within 4-6 km from your house.

Surprisingly, the tower with the best signal is not the one closest to my house!!!!!!!!!!

2. Second, I think a certain line of sight to the tower is necessary... it seems to lose it if these are concrete obstructions around.

3. Try to plug your modem power cable into a UPS, i'm not sure what difference it makes, but i read somewhere that it helps.

4. I'm sure you've already done this, but make sure the antenna is at the highest possible point in your building/bunglow, (As in, let the antenna be the tallest point on your bulding. )

I suggest you call the relaince technician regardless of your conneciton working now and get your antenna re-adjusted if there are multiple towers ariound your area. I hope it works for you too.
