Default Connecting Reliance ADSL & LAN simultaneously

Hi!!
I have a Reliance ADSL modem broadband connection that connects to the only LAN port on my laptop. Now the problem is that i need to use the LAN port for connecting to a desktop machine all the time. So, i bought a USB to Fast Ethernet adapter which virtually converts the USB port into LAN port. The problem is that when i connect ADSL line to the LAN port(any of the 2 i.e. the internal or USB-LAN) it works fine as long as i dont connect (to another LAN port) the network cable connecting my desktop. As soon as both are connected, the ADSL line does not work although the connection between the two computers works fine. I assume there is some IP Address conflict. Is there anyway i can connect both and work on both simultaneously?? Here, i want to clarify that i dont want/need to share the broadband connection with the desktop.

Hi, Try bridging both the lan ports on your laptop. It may help.

Go to your network connections, select both your lan connections, and right click and select bridge connections.

I've not tried it as i use a router/switch to connect to net and my desktop simultaneously, however, theorotically it should work.

A new router without the wifi will only cost you about 300-400Rs and thats a sure shot way of resolving your problem and you will not need that usb convertor anymore.
