Default Reliance netconnect = daylight robbery

I’ve registered myself on this forum specifically to help make people aware of exactly what Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus is all about.

Reliance billed me Rs.12,000 for 20 days of usage. The accusation of using 40GB+ of bandwidth in 20 days was absurd for many reasons but most of all because I already have an unlimited 1MBPS line from Hathway at home and and an MTNL Triband unlimited line at work. The Data card was only used during travel. The only reason I paid up was so they would not bill me for another ten days by sending me a consolidated bill at the end of the month after adding more undue charges. So I paid up and terminated my connection. No refund was given for the Data Card even though I offered to give it back.I have receipts for everything. I even gave them an official letter of full and final settlement which I had signed by the store manager when i paid up.

Detailed below is my story and the reason I feel that Reliance Netconnect subverts the truth for their own gain and hoodwinks consumers while doing so.

I purchased a Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus connection at my local reliance web world on the 7th of july 2009. I paid around Rs.3900 for the Data Card and filled out the necessary information in their forms.

Around 3 days later my connection was activated. I registered myself on the my usage section of their site to track my usage. I had opted for the CITYWIDE 10GB Day & 10 GB Night Plan. It Costs around Rs. 1400 per month.

the first Bill arrived on the 22nd of July for Rs. 650 which i promptly paid. Yesterday evening Aug. 19th '09 I realised my connection was not working. When I called their helpline in the night it kept indicating that all operators were busy, which quite simply meant that they were shut. I tried eleven times and got the same message.

This morning I called the helpline and spoke to a reliance representative who told me my "credit limit had been crossed!" When I inquired further I was told that each customer has a credit limit of around Rs.3500 and that my Unbilled usage had already reached Rs.9778.05

I was shocked to hear this. They had claimed I had downloaded over 42 GB worth of data. This was an absurd accusation to make. I even checked the reliance netconnect website which indicated my unbilled usage was nil. I even went to the extent of emailing them a screenshot of this evidence.

I got no incisive response from them and the representatives at the call centre insisted that my usage was over 40GB.

I already have a 1MBPS Hathway unlimited line at my residence & an MTNL Connection in My office. This connection was only used by me sparingly whilst travelling from office to home or vice versa in the car or seldom when one of these connections was down. There is absolutely no way that i would have used this kind of bandwith. My computers are all password protected, and no one had access to the data card besides me.

I knew there had to be an error. I went to the reliance world shop at Haji Ali from where I had bought my internet connection to complain about this.

They said if i did not pay up immediately they would bill me for another 10 days at the end of the month and send me a consolidated bill.

I paid Reliance Rs. 12,000 for 20 days USAGE. I have a receipt to prove it. I have receipts to prove my connection is only a little over one month old.
Applying for RELIANCE NETCONNECT is = BEING ROBBED

Reliance has several internal corporate phrases like "credit limit" "unbilled usage" etc. which it uses to its advantage to mask the truth from consumers and it relies on fancy advertising & promotional activities to win the trust of consumers.

I could easily have refuted the charges and let this drag on though doing so would make me no different from these crooks. I run a mid-sized business and have decided to take a stand. I will not use any Reliance Service be it a Mutual Fund, Internet or Mobile Service, Financial or Insurance Service. I will do my best to inculcate the awareness of the true nature of this company among my family, friends, staff, managers, business associates & the public at large through forums like this.

I urge all those who read this to carefully consider the consequences of dealing with Reliance who in my opinion are a bunch of thieves in the guise of a corporate entity.

Default Takin' it with a pinch of salt

I take that fact with a pinch of salt. Yes, the service is pretty bad. I made a payment of Rs. 2150 ten days days ago. Within the next four days my service got deactivated. I called them and asked details regarding the issue. Out of nowhere suddenly they asked me to pay Rs. 4000 as an amount for no reason to get my service activated.:scared: I was completely cheesed off. I told them I won’t pay anything unless I get appropriate reasons as to why I have to pay Rs. 4000 when my credit limit is only Rs. 2800. After one day, still there were no clarification on that particular issue – my services were still deactivated. There was no method to their madness. However, the next day I got a call from Mumbai head office - they promised to get my service back within the next night - which they duly did. And apologized for their inconvinience as it was a complete misunderstanding from their side.

FRD if I was you I wouldnt forget about it and would do everything I can to get my money back...

How about filing a suit in consumer court?

It only takes rs 100 and you would get some compensation as well in the end as your case is all in black and white and wont take more then 2 hearings.. or may be 3.

    Hi Admin,

The truth is that the usage data is housed on their servers.
If they can manipulate it to bill you, they surely will manipulate it to save face in Court.

I put stock in India's consumers and their ability to discern between white collared criminals like reliance and Genuinely good internet service providers.

Thanks for the advice though, I will consider it.

    Best Regards,

    F.R.D.

my advice, the service is also available in pre-paid form. so if you really need to go for it, go for prepaid.

I have purchased a USB Modem from the MG Road Reliance branch. But it is not providing satisfactory internet connection even after 4 months. Eventhough I repeatedly requested to rectify the complaints, the reliance officials told that it was due to the virus problem. Atlast I found out that it was not due to virus problem but the equipment was a defective one. Then I changed to BSNL usb modem which started functioning in the beginning itself. The Reliance official did not do anything to our grievance.
