Have you tried connecting it to your system with Ubuntu installed?
It might automatically identify the device. If it doesn't please, report back.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Thought 10.04 would be able to pick it up; but NO. After many errors in install of Lucid Lynx, just completed a reinstall. This time around, thought would ask for help first. usb-modeswitch is available in Synaptic; but not installed.
Thanks in adv for further help

You will have to use usb_modeswitch.

Just found a pretty good guide: Reliance Netconnect Broadand Data Card On Linux - Observations - Reliance Mobile (CDMA & GSM) - Discussion Forums

Hope that it will help you.
