Hi Friends,
I got a Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ connection just couple of days before i.e. on Dec 2nd 2010. To be precise 4 days before from the day I'm posting this. Reliance boosts about its one of the feature, i.e. 20 times faster with speed upto 3.1Mbps on move.
Is it really that much faster?
My tariff plan was Rs.750/- per month with unlimited download! As usual condition applies! They are:
Speed upto 3.1Mbps till 5 GB download, there after its 144kbps. (Came to know only when i called up Reliance customer care to lodge a complaint! The sales executive presented a whole different story! Never mind that!)
After i got the connection, for the first 4 days the download speed was around 0.24Mbps, and upload speed was 0.13Mbps. This was the test results i got after running the speed test at speedtest.net. (I can't post any of the link to the results though!)
After 4 days, I received a text message: "Dear Customer, High speed quota on Reliance Netconnect exceeded. Speed now upto 144kbps. Pls switch to 1X mode and enjoy surfing".
When contacted Reliance Customer Care, they presented a new theory. That is their bill generation date is 13th of every month. What does this mean to me?This means my high speed quota was 2 GB and not 5 GB, because I got the connection on 2nd of Dec, i.e. 12 days prior to bill generation date. Hence for 12 days, its 2 GB.
OK. Fair enough. But this is the speed results i got after running the speed test again. Download: 0.06Mbps; Upload: 0.03Mbps
Browsing was pathetic. Most the time i received "Server not found Firefox can't find the server at ....." message. (20 times faster to display this message!)
Before this connection, I used to connect to net using a dial-up connection of Aircel-GPRS through my Nokia 3110c cell phone. To be frank, Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ was 20 times slower! Never had such an experience with Aircel-GPRS!
Hence a word of caution to all future Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ customers. I lost Rs.2299 (For modem) + Rs.500 (4 days + 14 days (Time required to terminate a connection) usage charge)!
Please don't be cheated like me!
