    I used Avast.....
infact virus was not detected when normal scanning was done ....virus was detected when the pc was scanned in the boot mode....
also i used spybot search n destroy to destroy all the spy in the pc...
    atlast itworked....

I wonder, I ate the heads of RIL cc for the site not opening whereas problem was at my end

Just note one thing...when this worm attacks u ..u wont be able to open any microsoft sites or any antivirus sites..also when u install any AV u wont be able to update it online as virus wont allow us to update...only avast did it as it is the only intelligent av in the market

well, avast may work fine for you ... but its not halka-phulka ... i hope you said this in terms of resource usage ... avast uses lot of memory and at least 3-4 different processes for different services of avast runs in the backgrnd ....

Memory usage is splitted to different process in Avast. Note down the memory usage of every avast process and add them up. U will find the value more or less similar to those of KAV and other products. (Forget NOD32 and Norton 2009)

Thats not the proper way to measure how much memory an application takes. cauz memory usage might change depending on work AV is doing in background.

I can say that Avast is an excellent AV but pretty heavy on the system resources. Once installed it does tend to check everything and anything and slows down the PC

no dear. its not like that. it only scans the file which you access.

I have a Core2Duo with 4 GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM and 320 GB HDD. Before and after I can safely say that it is memory intensive but good.

Thats the problem, you could be doing anything and it will keep checking in the bankground...that tends to slow things up a lil...

i agree with you. But i think we can sacrifice some for our systems. Avast is the best anti. Boot anti virus is so fadu. I like it.

why did you put nod32 and norton under the same category in terms of resource usage?

i mean ... nod32 is one of the most light weight AVs ... and norton is always resource hungry ...

The latest Norton 2009 is quite low on memory resources. Hence i had posted so. Seems like Symantec is slowing learning from its mistakes. Please try it for yourself. U will find the difference

U should try it. U will be surprised. The last time i heard, it even took lesser memory than NOD32. Checkout the gaming edition too..

Gaming Edition of Norton 2009 as the name suggests are meant for gaming enthusiasts. Less memory usage than the normal version is the hallmark of the product..
