Default Reliance Wimax Information / Price Comparison

    Hi
I live in Mumbai - near Siddhivinak (DADAR) and very very close to the MTNL office
My current MTNL broadband is like ULTRA FAST

    i use the 890NU connection

    2mbps 24*7 + not a minute of downtime !!

but their plans are very bad and the day usage meter fills up like HELL

even if u use for 5 - 6 hrz of normal surfing i get billed alot

secondly i get tired waiting for 12Am to start the downloads

my bill sums up to 2k PM which is getting on my nerves

i dont have reliance broadband in my area Mumbai - near Siddhivinak (DADAR)

but they are offering me Wimax

    My Questions are:

Is wimax is better than the MTNL ?

Does wimax offers 300 or 400 kbps plans anymore ? because i dont want the 1 or 2mbps plan ?

if so why dont u edit the parameters in the excel sheet given below and give me a rough idea about how heavy Wimax wud be on my pocket

please dont tellme to read the reviews i have almost been through 100's of threads and read multiple reviews ... some were very dissapointing

but what was more dissapointing that only 5% of people mentioned their location with regards to service which is very NOOBISH !

------- About the Attached File -----------

    - i have mentioned 3 plans
    - 1 is MTNL's 256kbps Unlimited
    - 2nd is Broadband of Reliance
    - 3rd is my current plan of MTNL

u can add another row called WIMAX and let me know about the details on it

as u can see in the file how much i can save by changing my plan
i can save as much as 10k+ annuallly !!!

i can buy a new ipod touch with it

    so please reply !

    ----------------------

    END ..
    -----------------
Please see the file attached and reply !!

Reply anything folks ANYTHING !! even ur smallest reply can help me decide..

and i need to decide soon or i will be billed for another month from MTNL

    Thanx

Wimax is not better than wired (any ISP). Besides with Wimax you will get shared static IP. Also it may not (?) not be possible to port forward (on this I am not at all sure).
For Wimax, straight line of sight to the tower is important. But wimax is relatively hassle free once established.

I am not sure why you have to keep awake till 12 AM for downloading on MTNL. Have you not gone thru these threads:

    1. Automatic rebooting of router at 2 AM and 8 AM
    2. Ultimate Night Usage Manager

Over 2K is a lot to pay. To cut down your day time usage, I will suggest the following:

    a) Avoid all streaming media - once in a while it is OK
    b) Avoid day time downloads
    c) Switch to bridge mode and disconnect when not required - yes - this saves a whopping 10% if you are connected full day but idle most of the time.

    @JUST4KIX

Trust me i have read many of ur posts and find ur replies the best across the forum
u should really become a moderator / admin

well i am aware of the automatic router rebooting

but the thing is that i sit online @ any time no fixed schedule
so if ifind something intresting to download or an update or patch fix for games / iphone, or some video tutorial

i have to wait for nights as there is only 1.25GB Download limit

and i truly need something fully UNLIMITED !

so now can u suggest me something better in UNLIMITED plan below the 1k mark incl taxes.

and where is the Wimax tower located ?
and please just4kix answer my 1st post questions too ...

    Yes. Reliance does.

At the office, I cannot download the file. Will look at it from my home.

MTNL is really expensive in Mumbai.

and where is the Wimax tower located ?
Wimax tower could be located anywhere. They are usually on top of buildings.

Your best option would be to call Reliance and check. Make sure that you don't pay first and then get trapped. Ask the salesperson to give a demo if possible.
