    Default DNS server problem

    Today,
when i connect to reliance, it gets connected, and i am able to browse some sites, but after some time, the pages don't load. and it says in status bar, "connecting to site-name" etc. it seems , it is not able to resolve the dns.. even logout doesn't work. coz it can't find reliance page too. but it can by dnsnumber to google page.

from this forum, earlier somewhere i found dnsnumber for reliance, i made this number my homepage. so i don't have problem in login or logout.

today, i can browse some sites, but after some time, page don't load. probably some dns server error.

i keep login/logout many times, then it works sometimes, but then after a time it doesn't work. then it may work too.
    (i tried /flushdns too)

maybe dns servers r down, or overloaded.

i was reading abt other dns services. i came to know abt openDNS.
i tried adding that dns server , but it didn't work .

    opendns site

at other sites i found, that we can add some other dns server too.

Does anyone know the solution for it ?
or using openDNS or such service ?
or name of some other dns server ?

i am using windows XP + Firefox, (tried in opera too) Bangaluru 300kbps

    * not giving url coz. i can't post those.
You are only allowed to post Urls to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more.

    220.224.142.229 reliance.
    64.233.167.147 google

i can go to these pages by these numbers.

and this problem came in the middle.
i am browsing, and suddenly i can't browse.

then without logging out, keep reloading, and it works.
sometimes have to login logout many times.

15min earlier it was not working. now it is working.
(so i am able to post)..

PS..please tell me number of this forum too. so that i can try to browse this site when dnsserver is not working :-D

    Thanks for reply :-)
coz all the time, i was trying to scan my computer,
and was worrying that there is something wrong with my system.

today, 14 aug.. i had same problem in afternoon too.

now at 7 pm, it is good. (had this waiting, once in starting, may get again later )..

i cud go to number of google site..

I tried to change dns server to 4.2.2.1 etc. and some server given by
    dnsserverlistorg

    that didnt work.
maybe i don't know how to change dns server properly.
    or it just didn't work.

    PS--
my advice to other users is, always use reliance homepage as number.
and always login in that number-site. this way, u can logout easily in this condition,
otherwise, if this problem comes, logging out doesnt work too, (page not found)

it was yesterday afternoon, and this afternoon too.

if i can browse by numbers. i hope, there is some way, by which we can work in that condition too.

    Another post..

i tried to do ping wwwindiabroadbandnet (this forum)
so that i can get this number.

    i got this number..
    70.86.183.34

but if i try to do browse this or thisnumber/reliance-wimax now.

i find, one hostgatorcom page, which says, 'page not found"
can't i browse this site by number ?

yesh, it worked fast n nicely in the night,
now in the morning too, it is working good.
let's see, what will happen in the afternoon.

On the net, at other places, i saw some topics,
where ppl say, that we can change our dns server anytime,
and can use some public dns servers.

but i cudn't do that, or i didn't do in proper way.
so i was hoping, if any reliance wimax users tried to change dns server sucessfully. or found a way, to browse the net, when dns server is down, with the help of the numbers.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Switch to OpenDNS settings.

You can open your modem's configuration page and go to the page where it says "DNS". They will probably be blank. Set the following values out there:

    Primary: 208.67.222.222
    Secondary: 208.67.220.220

    Click on 'Apply' or 'OK'

Important: You must 'Save and Reboot' the modem after this, else the setting will be lost after you switch off the modem after use.

    thanks for this info.

i don't have modem, some other device to put in lan card.

though i did change server, as shown at opendns site.
    but that didn't work :-(

any person, using reliance wimax, who cud chage his dns server
    please reply.

    Added later...

as i am not able to add another dns server too.
and this is only dns error.

will it work , if put some entries directly in hosts file ???
    like..
    70.86.183.34 indiabroadband.net ?

    Default All out

    Hello,

I've been having the same problem for the past one or two weeks now. The DNS servers are down 90% of the time.

It's hit me real bad, as I'm a freelance writer, and I've lost Rs. 2000 in the past two days due to the inability to browse the net.

I've tried to switch to open DNS by using their server IP's both in the Network configurations, as well as in the ADSL Router (UT 300R2), but something in the settings doesn't allow me to use the net if I change it manually, and so I have to use "Automatic Network settings" instead.

I admit I don't understand the router well enough to make all the settings manually.

Reliance has been promising to fix this problem for days, and each time it just keeps coming back. The call center guys who answer don't know anything about DNS servers, and the technical team is helpless as well it seems.

I'm dying and hoping it doesn't take me down for a THIRD day. I don't know what I'll do.

it was out little time ago.

i have found a little solution.
    only for very important sites.

when net is working or by ur friend,
do the "ping site name" and note down the ip number.

    then for windows xp.
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
there is one 'hosts' file. copy it safely.

if it is readonly, uncheck it.
then paste that ip number like this.
    in that file.

    70.86.183.34 indiabroadband.net P.indiabroadband.net
    64.233.169.104 P.google.com P.google.co.in google.com
    209.85.159.83 mail.google.com

    ---
in above replace that 'P' with three w.
(do not write htt slash etc.. and follow the syntax, in one line, number space site site )
    (i can't post url coz below 15posts )
save it. make it readonly again.
start connection, start browser. and these sites can be accessed.
u can add ur fav sites.
temp solution, but good for me.
    ------
i got this by trial n error, n net.
someone expert , please tell us the disadvantage, or problem abt this.

    -------
Be sure to get correct ip number,
do ping urself, or by a trusted friend.
otherwise if someone will tell u ip of some phishing site, u will reach there.

    SK,
    this doesn't work that time.

    Recently we got another problem
that we can connect to reliance, but if we try searching site by numbers
as. /64.233.167.147/ we cud visit google page. but writing name of site in the url field was not working. coz dns server was not helping.

so sometimes when dns server is not working, but connection is working,(login must work ) we can use this trick.

And it is good idea to , make 220.224.142.229 as homepage, and login at this page, rather than the reliancesitenameone, coz in case if dns doesn't work, logging out is not a problem. or put this number too in hosts file.
    ---------
And yes, i have increased my dns cache size too.
    by using all this.

    --copy---
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Dnscache\Parameters]
    "CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001
    "CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180
    "MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00
    "MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d
---pasted in one new text file,, renamed as dnscache.reg--and merged--

i don't know much, how does this work, but google it and u may find more abt it.
and i don't know whether it made things faster or not.
