10.0.0.1 is sometimes called a default gateway address as it typically represents the local side of a router's connection to the Internet. 10.0.0.1 is more commonly found in business networks than in homes, which tend to use routers having default addresses in the 192.168.x.x series. Both the 10.x.x.x and 192.168.x.x series are private IP address ranges.
Where as 127.0.0.1 is the loop back ip address, commonly used to test your NIC,127.0.0.1 is the standard IP address used for a loopback network connection.

This means that if you try to connect to 127.0.0.1, you are immediately looped back to your own machine.

Man im lost...still havent figured out wht to do with my router ,i think i need to throw it out in the garbage and buy the one Reliance has to offer ..

Have you considered flashing to the linux based DD WRT firmware?
I flashed my old linksys wrt54g wifi router with it, and it made setting everything up much simpler. Everything is compartmentalised in there.

im not sure what firmware is in the Netgear router ,but common sense that if it connects with airtel it has to connect with Reliance wimax to ,unless theres a technonology bottleneck.

HM... Airtel and reliance both use different connection protocols.

Default Router problem

hey frds
i m using reliance wimax connection. I have two laptops. I need to use the net on both the system at same time. I went to buy linksys router. They told me you can not share the connection because reliance gives dynamic ip. You first have to apply for the static ip address. But i think the main problem by using router will be authentication. Even if it is static ip, i need to authenticate. so wat difference it will make. According to my knowledge if it works on static ip, it should work on dynamic ip also.
Can u please tell me is it poosible to to connect two computers on one reliance wimax connection. If yes how? and hich router i should buy for this purpse??

Let me tell you the real problem of "loosing IP/account lock etc" happens just after a power outage or modem disconnect without proper log out!!

this may help for many yelling customers out there..

Reliance uses two way mechanism for server authentication.
1. when you connect your pc to that crappy piece of white box, it tries to allocate an IP to your PC by reading your "PC's" MAC address.
2. Next you get the login screen. And you logs in successfully.
3. Then the server which authenticates you, records your IP along with username somewhere.
4. When you loose the power, your session with the above server is lost and the DHCP (which allocates ip) server thinks that, you have been disconnected. Here starts the wonder!!
5. Then DHCP server assigns "your IP" to some one else!!, RESULT, whoever got that IP has an authenticated session "with your user name" and he enjoys it nicely.

6. When your power comes back, you get a different IP and when you try to login, it wont work. Because some one else is using your account!!!!

How does that feel???

You call to reliance, yell at them, they reset your password!!, then you can login back again!!. Very nice!!

to make matters worse, if someone has the IP as well as same MAC address of yours, you are lost.. All sessions as well as your credentials (passwords, etc) can be seen by other user!!!.

Do you want this to happen?

A word to administrator,

I had no intention to make people hack reliance network. I wanted people to be aware of this security flaw which India's proud reliance has. Even after informing them.

I no longer use Reliance and that is crap. I discourage people from going after it, because of this security issues. Hope you will understand.!!
that all rubbish mac of ur system is never required for authentication it ur switch modems mac address that is required for allocating u a dynamic ip address . if the mac address of ur switching modem cannot be changed unless u r a hardware hacker.most of the system mac address which in the lan card can be changed. so even during power outage u still get the same ip address ......i dont how u r getting some other ip address.....but there is a possiblity that u cant login again as ur previous session was not logout.so even if i connect a laptop instead of my desktop even though the mac address are different ,ill still able to login and i done it many times. and mac addresses of such devices are unique.....

Hi Spice3boy and all,

I have been using so far BSNL ADSL Huawei router. But as I shifted my place in Bangalore where neither Airtel nor BSNL is available, I have applied for reliance wimax connection with single user plan of 400 kbps. Just wanted to know whether this Huawei ADSL router will work if I simply connect the reliance box to it? Could you let me know what setting I need to do or change in ADSL router. I was already using ADSL router with DHCP on as I have a laptop and a PC. I want to continue using both at the same time. Will it work?

Please guide me about how to do setting. I don't see any option of mac cloning in this huawei router as well.

Why would you want to use the ADSL router? It's unneccessary, unless you plan on using it to serve the internet connection to multiple PCs. In which case, the only way I know of adding the much needed MAC clone functionality to routers that dont have it is to flash its firmwar with the free linux based DD WRT firmware. Google for it, and check if it's compatible.
