| Aditya | what is wrong with you guys... why you always talk about hacking something... i think we shoud use what we are paying for.. if the speed is increasing without using any unfair means then its still ok... but hacking is turnoff... please think before you try this... ITS ILLEGAL TO HACK ANY NETWORK mrrijo I request you please mind we are here to help and to solve problems, not to create problems.. I request you please dont post such kind of Thread which can put someone in trouble Last edited by smoothvibes; 08-27-08 at 03:23 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Rep Power: 0 | Hello, You know what, i am a frustrated customer of reliance wimax. I told this problem to reliance many times!!. They still leave that stuff just like that!! That is the wonder about reliance. Let me tell you the real problem of "loosing IP/account lock etc" happens just after a power outage or modem disconnect without proper log out!! this may help for many yelling customers out there.. Reliance uses two way mechanism for server authentication. 1. when you connect your pc to that crappy piece of white box, it tries to allocate an IP to your PC by reading your "PC's" MAC address. 2. Next you get the login screen. And you logs in successfully. 3. Then the server which authenticates you, records your IP along with username somewhere. 4. When you loose the power, your session with the above server is lost and the DHCP (which allocates ip) server thinks that, you have been disconnected. Here starts the wonder!! 5. Then DHCP server assigns "your IP" to some one else!!, RESULT, whoever got that IP has an authenticated session "with your user name" and he enjoys it nicely. 6. When your power comes back, you get a different IP and when you try to login, it wont work. Because some one else is using your account!!!! How does that feel??? You call to reliance, yell at them, they reset your password!!, then you can login back again!!. Very nice!! to make matters worse, if someone has the IP as well as same MAC address of yours, you are lost.. All sessions as well as your credentials (passwords, etc) can be seen by other user!!!. Do you want this to happen? A word to administrator, I had no intention to make people hack reliance network. I wanted people to be aware of this security flaw which India's proud reliance has. Even after informing them. I no longer use Reliance and that is crap. I discourage people from going after it, because of this security issues. Hope you will understand.!! |

Rep Power: 12 | Now if thats true then its a pure invasion of ones privacy and Reliance can get get done for it if some one complains. This is indeed a major security lapse. |

| Platinum Member | mrrijo, I understand your frustration. But hacking is not the way to resolve your problem. Admitted that Reliance is in the wrong and making you suffer but what you are proposing to do is equally wrong. Two wrongs do not make a right. Also open forums such as this can hardly propogate and promote hacking, breaking copyrights, etc. The correct solution for you is: - change your ISP, if that is an option - file a case in comsumer court about your problem. There is a good procedure for that by serving show-cause notices first and documenting non-action on part of Reliance The above options are not easy but the path of truth is rarely a bed of roses. But the silver lining is that you will get plenty of help on this. And consumer courts are known to resolve cases quickly and they are very heavy on vendors who collect money and do not provide adequete service in return. Admin himself has filed a CC case and he will be more than obliging to help you with that, I am sure.

If you are a wimax customer, you would have at least once got a proper authenticated session just when you switch on your PC. I have got this situation at least 5 times. And when i go to the "My account", i see somebody else's account. If you think, switching on your PC is hacking, better you dig yourself a hole and hide there. Quote:

| Platinum Member | mrrijo, You have completely misunderstood my post. I did not read your very first post (it was edited out). But going by the subsequent answers, there was something 'objectionable' in what you said, as I inferred. You have chosen to throw some acidic comments on me: Quote:
When I said, "change your ISP", this was a generic suggestion and I see that you did not read my "Edit" comments. If you do not wish to file a consumer case that is your option. But because every one says that "they have better things to do in their life", people who are at fault tend to get away.

Rep Power: 2 | I understand the motivation from both the sides here. The question is... There are people who want to TWEAK / HACK / UNCAP their upper limits on speeds. There are people who do not encourage it. For those that want to ... where should they go to talk about it? |

Rep Power: 12 | You do have a valid point there but the security risk this thread starter had pointed out is not something I would encourage to be exploited.. Reliance wimax sucks big time! they cant even create a good authintication setup.. Talking about tweaking is a little different and is very much welcome. |

Rep Power: 2 | The borderline of what is legal skews here. Is it legal for TataIndicomVSNL to take 3 months prepaid money from me and then not have it working every night from 10pm to 8am from Day 1 and then for each of their stupid engineers and Customer (Un)Care professionals to keep taking down and giving you Support Ticket Numbers but not really solve the problem. Oh.. and after sometime for it to totally stop working. As long as you are not hacking into a Bank and causing financial losses, and / or using someones LIMITED account so that gets exhausted then I'd say simply trying to improve QoS YOUR OWN WAY because the ISP does not give you the assure QoS that you PAID for... I think might have a case. Again.. I do not know what he had posted, but trust me when anyone... include me PAY for an account and I do not get QoS I was assured and then made to run around by Customer Care and Tech Service... I have to find some WAY to squeeze the service out. This is nothing new as most broadband & cellphone forums in the US, Canada & UK - people discuss tweaks to improve their services. |

The correct way is to file a consumer court case and that is not as difficult as it sounds; not is it time consuming. If you paid for a service you must get the results.

| Aditya | I agree with just4kix if you have such kind of problem then the solution is consumer court, here i would like to add that even my connection is not working at all from last 7 days and i call them daily for resolution but daily there is a new trouble ticket number for me, i am keeping a record of all trouble ticket numbers with the name of associate and call duration so that i can file a complaint in consumer court now. so better idea is to go for legal things not for illegal means to improve your connection speed or something. In clear and very simple hindi language now agar koi tumhare ghar chori karta hai to tum uskae ghar chori karnae nahi jaate ... police complaint karte ho so idhar bhi wahi karna hai.. |

Rep Power: 2 | Consumer courts can only do so much. We should have class action consumer driven suits that resolve soon in court. Most consumers in India really do not have / never had the kind of QoS Assurances from any businesses like USA anyways. |
