Default Using Samsung phone while charging?

I have a Samsung Galaxy phone which I use to play games while charging. I just wanted to know if there is any harm in doing this. in any case would it lead to :

    - low battery life
    - any potential danger like explosion
    - overheating of the device

I am curious to know your views on this.

As far as I know it is not appropriate to use your mobile phone when it is in charging mode. One of the grave problems related to this is over heating of the device, which may lead to damages in the battery as well as phone hardware. Another problem we may encounter while using phone in charging mode is battery low life. Normal battery life is 1000 times charging.

Yes, I also experience this overheating in my phone and I was afraid that it may cause any explosions. So we cannot charge it for more than 1000 times in the life of battery. I think that is enough for a medium phone. But for a sophisticated smart phone that would not be enough as it needs recharging more frequently, especially when we use it for advanced gaming & network activities.

I think I would better avoid using it while charging. Thanks for your advice.

I don't think that nowadays you have the potential danger of it exploding while you use it, batteries nowadays are made from a different material and so they are more reliable. But if it was in the past there were a few models that had some issues related to explosions while charging but that was in the past and it was related to certain models! The device will heat more for sure but I don't think that it'll overheat unless you use for more than 1 or 2 hours non stop, that way I don't advise you to use while charging!

In terms of low battery life, there is not problem with nowadays batteries, as I said previously they are made with different and better materials than they were made some years ago! Nowadays every battery (no matter which device we are talking about) needs to be resistant to use while charging and not decreasing it's life that easily!

I don't think any significant harm can be done if you use your phone while on charge. The device will get warmer than it would do usually but as for it overheating, devices these days, and for a while now will automatically shut down if it gets to hot to prevent damage occurring so I wouldn't have thought that's a risk.

At first I belived that using my mobile phone while charging will incur a big distructive effect. But through research, I have been aware that it is not possible if proper usage of charger is implemented. Using third-party charger will probably create a damaged not only with the battery but with the mobile itself. Using a manufacturer-approved charger and battery is fine, even if your using the phone while its charging.

While I've never used an aftermarket charger, there's that many available these days and they sell well, with good reviews so while it's always advisable to use the charger that came with your device, if for any reason you can't, then I don't think it will cause to much of a problem.

I have been using a local charger for the last one year as I lost my original charger. Till now there is no issue. When I look for another branded one it was too pricey for me. My phone was getting hot while charging with the current charger when I use to play games. Now there is not issue when I stopped using it on charging. But I think it would be better to use a branded charger as @Rubie has mentioned.

I think after sales service and accessories are two major areas of money making for these companies just like car service and accessories.

It is okay to use a device while charging if you are not holding it. If you hold it, it will loosen the charger port. You have to place it on the top of a table if you want t use it while charging so the charge port will maintain it's "virginity". If it loosens, it won't charge anymore and you won't be able to connect it to PC to transfer files.

It is okay to charge while using if you are reading an eBook, sending an email, surfing a message board or reading articles online. As those actions don't consumes much energy. Don't play games while charging though because games are way too power consuming that your device wont charge and your battery will get bloated. Charging while watching videos and listening to music is a forbidden too.

Thanks for your suggestions. Anyway I stopped using my phone while charging and now it takes half of the time to charge than earlier when I used to play games.

So there is a threat of battery getting bloated. It is always better to leave it while charging. Earlier I thought it was an issue of the charger I use.

A threat of the battery getting bloated? I'm not sure I know what you mean?

Using your device while it's charging won't do it any harm. The only thing that will happen is that it will take longer to charge, but that's the case with anything.

If you turn something off completely and then put it on charge, it will charge quicker than if you left it on, but I would have thought that's obvious?

When I use my handset for gaming while charging the only thing I experience is the abnormal heating of the device. Otherwise in normal conditions charging does not make it hot. Yes, it takes very long time to charge it completely especially when we use it for gaming. Obviously the system needs more power to carry on the activity which delay the completion of power backup.

I think the chance of explosion of battery while charging needs to be ruled out completely. Till now I have not experienced any battery bloating while charging as explained by @Cashewfruit_wine. So in fact I am unable to comment on that.

The batteries in modern smartphones are a world away from the old batteries that they used to have and technology as come on leaps and bounds.

As soon as a device is fully charged it can be left plugged in and its safe to leave that way. There's no chance of a phone overcharging like maybe there was 10 or even 5 years ago.

It's also same with the temperature of the device, as soon as it gets above a certain temperature it will warn you, and if you ignore the warning it will eventually just shut itself off untill it's safe enough to use again.

You are right. Modern handsets are equipped with auto cut off once charge is full. Earlier there were news of battery explosions and minor accidents while using the phone on charging. Now I think the manufacturers also mention if it is safe to use while charging. But as a general rule it is better not to use it for running power hungry applications which can delay the charging process and also reduce battery life. It is better to use once the charging is over. But there is no significant impact if we use it for basic operations like calling, texting etc.

Now a days, smartphones are getting smarter and better. There is no such thing that your phone will get damage in using during charging. No manufacturer limits us from doing that. The only thing to consider is overheating. If it gets overheated avoid using your advice during charging and vice versa.

A device overheating these days won't happen either as it will shut down once it reaches a certain temperature, allowing the device to cool before you'll be able to turn it back on again.

Smartphones are indeed getting smarter these days.

Its always advised not to use any phone while charging, be it samsung or any other handset. Using your phone while charging might reduce your battery life and even performance of your handset. I have faced this problem in the past, as I used to use my phone while charging. It reduced my phone's battery life considerably.

No it doesn't! There is no harm that can be caused by using your phone when it's being charged. Its gets a little warmer but that's all.

Batteries these days are nothing like the ones on the older devices, and you can't overcharge them, they don't explode and using the device while on charge won't decrease the life of it.

depends on the quality of charger and the kind of voltage it throws though the output. I recently got a Quantum Charging Dock from Amazon. IT has 4 USB outputs and two normal Socket output and throws upto 2.4 mAh of power per USB port. This has removed the funny way the phone LCD used to react earlier while charging.

As far as I have read, experts always recommend not to use the phone while charging and it's better to switch off your phone while charging. Using phone while charging may lead to battery damage and, it may later take much more time to charge. I never use my phone while charging and I would always recommend people to either switch off their phones, or put it on flight mode.

I don't know how many times I can keep going over the same things to be honest. If people fear they are going to over charge their phone, its going to damage the battery, or it's going to overheat and blow up, then dint use it when its charging.

It won't do any of them things like I've said countless times, and others have too, so I'm.leaving this thread at that now.

I have been using all my phones like that - nothing bad ever happened, as far as I know. However, experts recommend against this because it apparently causes shorter battery life. Can't say I've ever heard about the danger of overheating ( or overheating mobile devices in general ), though the devices do get warmer so I guess it's possible.

Obviously if you want to stay on the safe side just don't use it while its charging.

It won't damage the device, but it can cause the battery to over heat, and it can cause the battery to not charge properly in the future. This can be a problem in the long run. You may not see it right away.Using your phone while it is charging should only be done for emergent reasons. Playing games isn't really a good reason to mess up your battery life.

Using a charger that came with your smartphone or equivalent, you can use your smartphone while charging is no problem.

Contrary to myth leaving the fully discharged battery, it has a somewhat daunting origin, because you use your smartphone while charging with inadequate device may cause terrible accidents such as fire or can even electrocute the user.

Under normal conditions it is not often the case problems with original charger, but it is possible that over time some phone components have some malfunction and cause explosion during the charging process.

The danger which you have mentioned is true for older smartphones. Newer smartphones do not have a 1000 charge limit and when it is overheating, simply stop using the phone at that moment. The battery will not explode, if it did, you would be hearing numerous stories about its occurrence in the news; especially since the average consumer is not thinking about the problem you stated.

It will lower the life of your phone if you do this. Also depends on which samsung galaxy model you have.

It is highly dangerous to use a mobile phone during charging, especially for talking. The radiations emitted by the mobile device increases manifold during the process of charging. It can be dangerous for the health of the user. Simultaneously, calling during charging can also lead to the explosion of the battery due to overheating. The heat of the battery may also lead to a development of sores on the area of the face which is in contact with the phone.

Well, I use my phones while charging, but when receiving calls, I either put it on loud speaker or disconnect it. I've read and seen too many stories of people dying that way. I don't think there is anything wrong with using a phone while it's charging, my phones work fine and I have used them for more than two years.

It seemed to be harmless if you are just surfing the net or reading an ebook. Playing games and videos while charging is where it gets risky based on my own experience.

Earlier there were instances of explosion of battery while charging up, but I think all modern phones are equipped to deal with this. The power intake is automatically cut off once the battery reaches full charge. But at the same there is no doubt that using of phone for intense applications will make the handset heat up easily and reduce the life of battery considerably. Over heating can adversely affect the internal circuts in the phone and can gradually damage the system. So, while charging it is advisable not to use the mobile for power hungry applications like games if you actually concerned about its durability.

I have to charge my phone while playing specific games, because the amount of power the game uses, is too much and after one go my battery because too low, so I think it is alright to charge the phone while using it. Just like how people use their laptops while charging it.

I have heard about phone explosion when the call was taken while it was charging. If it explodes while attending call during charging mode, it could also happen while playing games.

I tried it for so many times playing with my Samsung phone while charging it and I noticed that the temperature at the back part increases faster than not charging it. The main reason is that the CPU is working and transmitting more electricity when you are using it while it is charging that may cause explosion but luckily it didn't explode for me. The life of the battery will also decrease because it will drain easily if you continue using while charging.

I think modern batteries are able to withstand anything like that. They don't explode anymore but only in exceptional cases it may happen. Gaming while charging consume too much of resources which sometimes may not able to handle. That will result the device heating up abnormally and when it heats up uncontrollably it may even damage the inner circuits which can damage your device permanently.

So, it is always better to leave it while charging unless and until it is necessary to use it. Using it while charging can also make your battery bloat and can permanently damage your battery.
