Hi All,
I just joined the forum today, and thought to share my views on the latest touchscreen sensation from Samsung here in UK.
The phone is called 'Samsung Tocco' (touch in spanish). Main features are:
-> 2.8'' large touch sensitive display supporting 256K colors and 320 x 240 resolution
-> 5 Megapixel camera
-> 3G - HSDPA supporting upto 2.4 Mbps data transfers
-> Bluetooth
Believe me when I say this phone is just beautiful! The design is very elegant, the phone just perfectly fits my hand, and the touch screen is very responsive. The lag time is really microscopic, which makes the phone highly usable. Some say adding extra memory makes your phone lag, but I've put an 8GB micro sdhc card, and the phone just works superb.
The camera is probably one of the most advanced you can find in the mobile markets right now... (Not considering the 8 MP cam phone to be released by Sony). There are numerous features like auto focus, face detection, timer, multi shot, Panorama, Smile shot.. and the flash is alright for dim lights.. Mind you, i'm talking about a mobile phone here!!
Although the display does not show the picture well enough (some internal compression algorithm to display on phone), once you put the picture to your PC, you will appreciate the phone.
Internet browsing is so much better, thanks to 3G HSDPA. The data transfer is excellent, and page load time is comparitively a breeze. However, no WiFi means you cannot connect the phone to your ISP.
The video player works great. I used to convert all movies to my iPod Nano format. Used the same files, and the display comes to fullscreen! The music player is also beautiful, and loud enough for your neighbors to tap on your door at nightThe headphones provided are nearly as good as my iPod plugs, and these are fit-in-ear types, so reduce outside noise.
One major hitch I found was the difficulty in installing games! Similar to the latest Samsung phones, we can not just pull the jar or jad files to 'Other files' or 'Games' folder and click on the file to install. We 'have' to download it from web. I spent a lot to install a few games, and thats turned out no good, because of the pseudo keys comming on the bottom 5mm of the screen.
I guess I have to wait for some games to be released specifically for this phone now...
Overall, I am more than satisfied with this phone, though there is no WiFi and no GPS.
If you want an elegant, simple to use, stylish phone with an awesome camera for the occasional masterpieces on the go, then buy this phone!!
