Rep Power: 3 | I subscribed for this connection from October’04. I paid a initial amount of Rs.3000/- and initially took an unlimited 1 month shared connection costing Rs.615/- with 32kbps speed. I should say I got an average speed of more than 32kbps. However the download speed was not up to the mark. The transfer rate of download speed I got was around 6kbps or can be compared to a dialup speed. You can download a maximum of 75mb per day for this connection. I did have some initial Hicups regarding the connectivity, but the cablewalla who provided me the connection took care of it and after a couple of days and until now I have not found any major setbacks regarding the connectivity. For the month of November I purchased 250mb one month limited connection with 128kbps speed. The price was Rs.510/- The speed of this connection was tremendous and I should say it was like a real Broadband connection. While downloading the transfer speed I got was around 21kbps. I was able to download a 1mb file in 40 seconds. But then in this connection the more number of hours you stay or if you download or visit some sites to download jpeg files the precharged amount vanishes fast. The sify gives free online antivirus software from Macfee. If you are running Norton ask those installation guys not to remove Norton or whatever antivirus you are having. Macfee is not good and moreover you would get some error if you try to update the antivirus. It would take a phone call to sify to get rid of this Macfee. The Macfee antivirus removal should be integrated in their client software for easy removing instead of calling them to remove. I found lot of people complaining about the speed. It all depends on your local cablewalla. If he is a crook you are finished. Luckily I have a good one here in Chennai and hope he stays like that. Sify should definitely streamline this cablewallas. Sify should inspect the hardwares used by these cablewallas before they become their agents. I should say the customer service at Sify is a total flop. They were not able to provide me the details of the various broadband connectivity available with them. Worst one chap there never knew that there was a one month 250mb limited connection. It is always better to have your relationship with your local cablewalla. Get their phone nos and treat them nicely and you wouldn’t find any problem. Another factor affecting the speed might be your computer. The speed would definitely be slow on a Celeron system compared to a Pentium IV 2.8Ghz. A minimum of 128 mb ram should be there in your system and definitely install a advt and spy blocking and browser hijacking software. It would be better if you install the ad-aware software. If you are installing an addon card for the lan support, do not install DAX Ethernet card (the sify guys usually insists on this ethernet card but this is not a good ethernet card). Install a Intel card or Realtek ethernet card which is really good. The price would be around Rs.300/- for this card. Hope this helps somewhat in choosing your broadband connection. Please Rate and leave a comment . Happy Surfing. Cheers |

Rep Power: 0 | whatever it is, i should say that the initial deposit of Rs. 3000/- to a private operator shows that you are a dumb-ass. I paid only Rs. 400/- for getting the connection on. But I am not happy with the speeds in Sify. It sucks. it is the worst of all the service providers. Everyone is switching out of Sify. Donot even encourage them to get into it. |

Rep Power: 0 | Are You MAD? Sify is the most wrost boardband connections in the whole universe*. You get ad's just after logging in, every now and then while you are browsing. The wrost part is, the ad's belong to useless hyderabad.com, bharathmatrimony.com, loanwala.com and all other **** sites. The download speeds never go above 8kbps for 64kbps connection, and 35kbps for a 256kbps connection. I envy my friends who have BSNL broadband and have download speeds of atleast 200 kbps. I warn sify that if they continue like this, the no. of users they have will go down and they will run into losses. By the way, I paid Rs 1500 initially for the connection and he said that was the minimum amount |

Rep Power: 2 | Cant imagine when will you guys grow up and realize...theres a diff between Sify Isp and your local cable provider which distributes it...If your cable provider has dc probs and all then dont blame sify..i have used sify for over 2yrs and had a great provider in my area...in the 2yrs my net hardly went down for max 15mins , yes me not lying..So it all depends upon your cable provider if hes able to provide good connnection or not..Ife hes not then sify speeds willl suffer...i had there 256k untld plan which was for around 1200 and i had so much fun downloading... |

Rep Power: 0 | i've seen a few posts here, the problem with sify is tht it doesnt handle everything on it's own. like someone said, payments nd all are done to the local ISP, not sify directly. so if you have a good local internet provider then everything is fine. some of these local internet providers take "maintenance charges" every month, so if you are planning to take a sify connection here's the things u need to watch out for- 1. find out who is going to be your local internet provider. find out if they take any maintenance charges which are in addition to what sify is offering. if they are, either ask for a different service provider or dont go for the connection. 2. when they give u a connection, usually they install a switch either on the terrace or in your home. in my case the switch was installed in my neighbour's house, and my connection was through their switch (which i wasnt told). sometimes my neighbour would turn the switch off after he had finished using the net and so my net wud also go off. so make sure ur not sharing ur switch with anyone else, it's best to ask for a separate switch in ur house. 3. as far as power surges go, it is always better to have a ups at home for your computer. power surges can happen at anytime and (in a worst case scenario) can blow ur motherboard. apart from that i have no problems with the speed of their connection, i took the 256 kbps, 150 mb dload limit (during the day) plan. if u can avoid the above 3 main problems then i would say go for sify, apart frm a few other minor issues (like ads wen u sign in, etc etc) it's pretty good for the money u pay. |

Rep Power: 0 | Sify doesn't operate anything on its own . Everything is directly controlled by local cable provider . So , luckily I have got a good provider as many in this forum have , and I have had no major issue till date , I had few disconnections[network cable unplugged] but they were set right in just a single call or maybe twice sometimes. I wish Sify , they can come with something even better. |

Rep Power: 0 | I've been using sify for 4 months now and must say that i never had major disconnectivity probs..it gets dc max for 10-15 mins and not too often..our local operator is just a phone call away.the download speeds arent good but really u cant compare sify or anybody for that matter with BSNl..they are the wierdest of the lot..many of my friends who all seem to have bsnl get lousy speeds at times(quite unexpectedly) and they are billed for huge downloads that they haven't done.. |
