The great SIFY BROADBAND - BAD PEOPLE

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:2guns:Not thrice never think of SIFY connection anywhere in India :2guns:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:gunsmilie:Never ever think about SIFY connection. Please do not pay them, they will take the money, deposit in the great SIFY's account, take commission and run away. Your mobile bill will increase. If you have blood-pressure problem then SIFY is very risky for u. I f u do not have blood pressure problem, it will start the moment u pay to SIFY. keep tablets for headache, uneasyness, anger controlling tablets(if any) with u. I PERSONALLY ADVICE THAT IF U HAVE WEAK HEART, U CAN STAY ALIVE WITHOUT INTERNET, DO NOT GO FOR SIFY EVENTHOUGH IT IS THE ONLY OPTION.

One post/thread was enough. I merged all the three threads.

I sympathise with you. You can file a compalint with consumer court and recover all you money, expenses and compensation for anguish caused.

Switch to BSNL or Airtel for peace of mind.

I can understand your fury, but please refrain from posting in this manner, its against the rules of this forum.

And besides if you have proper proof you can file a case in consumer courts as well.

    Tell me some more things

    - U live in an important area of the city, did you not have any other service provider in your area ?

    - Don't you think 2700 for 3 months is a costlier option than that offered by other ISP's

    Relax.

Sometimes people are not aware of cheaper options.

    Easy tiger!

Get a reliance or tata wimax connection as they are both available in Chennai as far as I know or even better get an airtel or bsnl adsl connection.

The best way to teach a lesson to sify is just disconnect and let others know what youve been through.

I have a horrible experience with Sify i took the connection in March 2008 within a two month a have faced so many speed problem once I have recharge my acount 512 kbps night unlimited but i hardly get 80-100 kbps speed entire month and most of the time dialer is not opening. CC agent(sify) came to my house local cable operator came every week after that he said "i can't do any thing line is ok" after a month CC officer(sify) said "we are looking your matter" but no improvement in speed, then i decide to take BSNL broadband.

need router for that, the device provided by tata wimax is talisma CPE which is not good for anything at all, the better idea is to use your own router and then go for port forwarding.
Can use any good router like netgear, dlink, linksys, speedtouch or any other one

Sify is one of the other ISPs in India (the other one is Airtel) which is advocating Fair Usage Policy for UL connections. I doubt whether they have enough subscribers to impart this policy of theirs.

i think they will soon loose many subscribers ... its not a fair usage policy .. better it be called limited usage policy ...

Do you guys know what is FUP (Fair Usage Policy)
its nothing like they will cap your account 24/7, its to manage server load during power hours or you can say when most of the users are online, i think its the correct measure to put a cap on unlimited downloads and it can help to solve piracy problem too. I am sure very soon all ISP's will start following it. In UK most of the ISP got this Fair Usage Policy on 8Mbps premium/platinum plans too.

Now i know from this and other threads, how bad really sify is, and the disconnection problems were not just with me, but with a lot of people.

Why do they have this problem, and its generally all the time and Im sure that their they receive a lot of complaints so why is nothing ever done?

talk about dealing with their CC!! In my hometown theres only sify and bsnl. I was trying to get sify runnin on my linux box and guess what?? their CC got me speaking to the guy highest in their technical heirarchy and he also said it'll work within 24 hrs which then turned to 48, 72 etc etc. Long story short- they suck! They admitted that they could not resolve the issue.

Btw has anybody got bsnl working on linux? please lemme know

Actaully government should implement Fair "Connection Speed " policy on SIFY... for every minute the customer connection speed goes below 10 kBps, the customer should be paid re 0.10 and a multiple on re 1 for every minute there's no connection.

There's a slight diff between what's happening in UK and India. There the ISP's are throttling bit-torrent traffic due to huge lobbying by groups from the music and media industry (IFPI etc). This is their attempt to battle piracy(which will be largely unsuccessful).

But in India they are putting a cap on downloads, they probably don't even know about the throttling mechanisms. Putting a cap on downloads can also prevent legitimate use. For example somebody who watches a lot of Google Tech Talks on youtube or downloads MIT's OCW material. It is unfair on them.

Anyways the battle is on as we speak. Head to torrentfreak . com and see what's happening in the pirate bay trial. The music and movie companies have become a laughing stock with the piratebay members and the entire file-sharing community winning so bad, it's funny! The verdict of this case is most likely to be used as a benchmark around the world. It'll will decide the future of file sharing and also heavily influence the so called "Fair Use Policy"

My take: as bandwidth demands are increasing by the day, putting caps is useless and unfair, ultimately the company that provides real "unlimited" bandwidth will win.

It depends on some areas and my friend is using this for over a year and he had no complaints. So, it might be you are in some bad area or atleast an unlucky area for you
