    Default Packet8 BPG510 VOIP phone adapter with Sify

    Hi All,

    As anyone tried using the Packet8 BPG510 phone adapter with Sify Broadband? I am trying to use this adapter by connecting the broadband cat-5 cable to WAN port of the adapter, but I am not getting the service.

    I understand I need to change the static IP settings in the Packet8 adapter. Can anyone help me with this?? I appreciate your help in advance.

    Thanks!

    SD

    Is it an unlocked Phone ? Who is the VOIP provider ?

    setup : usually
    Normal BB connection SIFY cable or /adsl ===> to modem==to Voip unit === telephone .
    voip unit to computer.
    (mine vonage unit to Wifirouter ~~~~~ laptop )
    ~~~~ wireless waves !
    Do you have any LCD screen display in the unit ?
    What is the error message you get ?
    Do you know the Service provider's IP ?
    For instance the IP for Vonage unit is 192.168.15.1
    router router . The phone in India has a U.S.number
    paid for in U.S.
    Default More details regarding my issue
    Hi All,
    Thanks for pitching in to help. Here are some hardware details:
    Phone adapter: Packet8 BPG510. It has been paid for in the US and my other units are functioning well in the US. I was using this adapter without any issues in the US prior to visiting India.
    Broadband: Sify Broadband.
    Phone: GE
    Here is what I have done so far: The objective is to change the default dynamic IP option on the Packet8 adapter to static IP. I have noted down the IP address provided by Sify, subnet mask, default Sify gateway, and primary DNS. Now, I followed the instructions as per Packet8 documentation at packet8.net/support/faqs.aspx
    a) I changed my computer's IP address to 192.168.88.1. Then I logged into Packet8 configuration using default admin password.
    b) I changed the WAN settings from dynamic to static and entered the IP address, IP Netmask, IP Gateway, and IP DNS Server that I use for Sify
    c) I enabled WAN PPPoE option in Packet8 and under authentication entered the username and password I use to connect to Sify.
    d) Under MAC Cloning option of Packet8, I entered my computer's MAC ID that I have registered with Sify
    e) Now I connect my computer to the Packet8 LAN port but I do not get both the phone and internet service.
    Despite all these changes, I still do not see the Service light on my Packet8 adapter. I get a busy tone on my phone.
    Thanks!
    SD
    As your Packet8's default IP is 192.168.88.1, then why do you set the same IP to your computer?
    set your computer to dynamically accept IP address
    Yes Skap. I have no issues connecting to the internet using Sify.
    Hi All,
    Now, I am getting the Packet8 VOIP service using Sify broadband without any issues. I followed the instructions posted on Packet8 FAQ provided by user essbebe.
    I am summarizing my current settings as a reference to anyone who may face the same issue in the future:
    a. Connect to the internet using your Sify broadband connection. Make sure it's up and running. Now, make a note of your physical address (MAC), IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary and secondary DNS.
    b. Disconnect the Sify internet cable from your computer and change the properties of your Local Area Connection TCP/IP properties to "Obtain IP address automatically"
    c. Now set up a static address on your Packet8 BPG510 phone adapter as below. The below are copied from Packet8's FAQ
    Question
    How do I set a Static IP address in the BPG510?
    Answer
    To set up a static IP Address on your BPG510:
    1. You will need to have a computer connected to the LAN port on the BPG510
    2. Make sure that your computer gets an IP address of 192.168.88.xxx, where xxx can be any number.
    3. As long as it has an IP in this format, go to h t t p://192.168.88.1 from any web browser. Then press ENTER key. You will be prompted to enter a password (the default password is admin). To access this page you will need to have your computer connected to the LAN port on the BPG510 since this page is hosted by the BPG510 device.
    4. In the menu bar down the left side of the screen, select WAN.
    5. In the top menu bar, select WAN Settings. This will open the Wan Configuration screen.
    6. Select the radio button labeled SPECIFY FIXED WAN CONFIGURATION
    7. Fill in the IP Address, Subnet, and Gateway accordingly
    8. After inputting the numbers, click on SAVE WAN CONFIGURATION.
    9. When the utility displays a window telling you it must reboot the phone, make sure your broadband modem is connected to your phone''s WAN port, then click OK. When the phone finishes rebooting, it will ask your broadband modem to assign an IP address. You have now set up a static IP address on the BPG510.
    Notes: For the item #7 above, use the IP address, Subnet mask, Gateway, and DNS server details that you noted down earlier before changing the Local Area Connection properties.
    In addition to the above nine items, I also used the MAC Cloning Configuration on Packet8. After you save your WAN configuration as in item 8, click on the MAC Cloning link and enter the physical address (MAC) that you have noted down earlier. This is the MAC that you have registered with Sify.
    Once your Packet8 adapter reboots, make sure you disconnect the power source of your Packet8 adapter. Connect the power source back and you should see all the lights lit up on your BPG510.
    Now, you should also be able to surf the internet without any issues by bringing up the Sify Broadband client application.
    Essbebe, Skap and others, thanks for your help!
