Unless you get a router, there is not much help we can give. I would recommend buying a Netgear WRG614. You can then follow my instructions in the link on the post above. If you are having problems, let us know what the problem is and we'll help.

Note: If u have the client logged in on 1 comp dont do so on the other.Incase of queries pls fell free 2 post them .
hy see first u connect the sify cable to the WAN port of your router, then in the configurations setting of the router set the WAN setting as static ip and put in the details of your sify account .. like the ip they gave you the subnet, and the default gateway etc. and on ur desktop as well as the laptop, in the tcp ip settings assign the option automatically detect ip settings. do not change the dns server address .. on all other pcs u are using for example the wireless laptop use macmakeup (refer the post mentioned above) and change the mac id and use the sify client normally

hope u figure it out

Unhappy Help Me Guys !

Im having a sify broadband cable connection.the problem is that Me n My brother both have a laptop each . And we want to connect the same connection with both the laptops with an option of using either one at any time or using both at the same time(at the cost of splitting the speed) . My local sify man suggested buying Netgear switch n i did it too (so foolish of me) .. now he is saying that i will have to keep one laptop ON if i wish to use to second one ..The Whole purpose gets defeated here. I wish to know if there is a way to connect both the laptops to the same line n using any one or both at a time without having to wake up my brother n askin him to switch on his laptop if i wish to use mine !

sify does not grant access 2 your router .. the dialer sends the MAC ID so effectively the computer you have used to connect is the one whose MAC id is being sent

as sify uses MAC address binding
in the WRT54g router you have option to perform mac address cloning
clone the mac address of the client which was used to register and you should be able to connect

Default 2 laptops on Sify with Wifi

im using sify broadband on two laptops(one at a time)..im planning to buy a netgear wgr614 router..ive being browsing this forum for configuring the router.

My doubt is,after connecting the router to sify cable we have to call sify and register the router's mac address, now can i use both the laptops on wifi, bcoz we can register only two mac addresses with sify and here there are three one of the router and other two of the laptop.

U need to register the mac address of the router only with Sify. The rest of the devices are connected to the router right?

the SIFY bb cable is connected
to (a)a cable modem
or (b)adsl modem
(c)direct Rj45 to computer ethernet port ?

You can shift the RJ45 from computer end
and connecting to LAN1 of wifi router.
From LAN2 rj45 to computer again.
Test if OK
Try wifi.

Post this data: in LAN mode or WIFI mode
Start RUN type cmd type ipconfig /all

netgear wgr614 wireless router
Usually it will be the modem's gateway IP
enter sify's static IP here.
DNS usually opendns 208.67.220 .220 and 208.67.222.222
I have the same wifi router details if required.
Beetel110BX==Vonage=== netgear wifi wgr614
192.1681.1 192.168.15.1 192.168.2.1
laptop 192.168.2.2. WIFI mode )

Para three: post in this forum.

I tried connecting the sify cable to one of the LAN ports. Connectivity works only when I set the desktop/laptop IP also the same. In short, the router works as a switch.

i read the article as mentioned abt sify .......... i just want to tell that earlier this connection was by sify ppl only and then teh provided made his own network please help me i wwant to access internet wirelessly onto twop different systems....

im fully confused

i have a linksys router wrt54g2 its a cisco based wifi router which i was using myself for connecting to internet using airtel broadband in bangalore ...

i had set it up for connecting with wired line and wirelessly but now im shifted to lucknow here there isnt an option of getting airtewl broadband so i had to take a local broadband which belongs to APEX they have a an antenna installed at my home... through whicch i access internet...

the worst thing abt it is that its an authenticated sort of internet which requires username and password to work.....

but when i connect directly it starts working bcoz a page opens up which says login name and password...im highly confused now what to do...please suggest me something...is it something of mac address i doubt it is bcoz ity works on any laptop which i connect to directly....

the person inchatrge to it hardly hjas any knowledge abt wi fi router......

he just knew its not dhcp enabled.....
