Thread: problem with sahring internet!!!

hi guys!!! pls help me with this!!!

i subscribed for 256kbps unlimited sify broadband connection, and have a router(netgear WGR614 v7) which has wireless and 4 ports.... i live in a pg with me and my room-mates sharing internet through this router...
there are 2 laptops and 1 desktop... 1 laptop is the server and should be always kept on and logged on to the sify client, otherwise rest of the systems will not connect to the internet..... till here it is fine....
the problem is that both the laptops are getting internet whereas my desktop is getting zero internet,,,, always server not found when i try to open a website.... my desktop is connected with a lan cable...

pls help me, ip address is set to automatic detection...

has the server laptop blocked my desktop to use the internet or is there any setting problems in both the desktop and server laptop.......

Hi,

Sify client will be installed in one system. That system if you shutdown the other systems should work. While you do shutdown cancel the logout screen of the sify client. It wont logs out but cancel the logging from sify service. so that the rest of the systems will be able to do surfing. As you said you had router the IP's should configured to Router.

His question is this , how do I setup sify broadband in such a way that the username and password is stored on the router and the router auto dials to the ISP so that anyone connected on the lan can connect to the internet , the internet is always on so that we no longer have to use the BS sify dialer. Also his requirement is that 2 or more people can use broadband at the same time . I hope I am not wrong !!! :tt2:

Thanks for replying, but anyways, i fixed the problem... It seemed that the router was using same ip address as my lan card, so i changed some tcp/ip settings of my lan card...
(the sify ip and gateway, dns, etc was already filled there... I changed it to "obtain ip / dns automatically")
Also, while setting up the router, i selected "Use computer's mac address" option. I didn't even had to call sify to register new mac address.

Q1. Sify connection is a cable BB connection ?
Q2.Any modem supplied ? model make /
Q3 How WIFI router is connected?

Laptop 2 working Ok in WIFI mode ?
3.WGR614V6 LAN1 ===>>>Rj45 ===== Desktop not working

4.None of the above.
