Sify "BB" is a frigging pain the wrong place. I got my Sify connection on 23-Aug-2008. Below is the summary of my woes:

1) Downtime started the same night after purchase. Was rectified only next morning - this means I lost about 10 hours of productive download (my plan is 256 kbps day, 512 kbps night, unlimited).

2) For several nights I got just 70-80 kbps instead of the billed-for 512 kbps. I wrote a sharp email to the BB in-charge (name and email available from the website) and from the same night I started getting on an average 500 kbps. I was happy about that.

3) Second time my speeds dropped - both daytime and nighttime - and I complained again. SOme asshole called from their CC and said the plan only delivers 70-80 kbps at night - though the plan says 512 kbps. This speed, he said, is not achieved and marketing knows all about it. I told him to cut the bullshit and restore my bandwidth else I would write in to the Head, CC. He got the message and did the needful. I was happy, again. But not for long.

4) Downage on 01-09-2008. Status: CONTINUES. Apparently some server has *burnt* in a fire caused by lightning. Yes - that's the reason I got. Work is still going on, you see, because the burnt out parts have to be stuck with Fevicol and all that Fevicol takes time to dry. I have complained to virtually the entire spectrum of CC and Managers but not one have bothered to reply. Not one reply after calling these assholes 20 times.

Bottomline: AVOID SIFY LIKE THE PLAGUE. Sify's infrastructure is so rickety that the slightest wind/drops of rain/mild lightning in another corner of the city/traffic pollution smoke etc can make the server to fail, the wire to get burnt etc, which ofcourse will take days to stick together with gum and make it run at 70 kbps again.

Actually I did get advertised speeds for a few days which means that this would probably be a half-decent provider IF ONLY they had other than assholes in their service team. But no such luck, so you'd be better advised to blow your money elsewhere if at all you must.

Welcome to the club
I am also on the same plan and have had my shar of problems with sify in the past. I have a backup connection now to avoid problems and I have also recently applied for a tata wimax connection so once that wimax connection is up and running I will get rid of this sify crap for good

The sify business model is not something which can be sustained for too long and is bound to crumble at one point. These people charge as much as others do and more in some cases and still cant provide a decent uptime... and speed.

It's not that they are new in this business or anywhere being close to new.
They have been here for quite a long time & the reason for them to still
mint money is because the consumer has very limited or no choice at all.

They Dont follow their Business Model ...Tats the problem...Very Lethargic ,Lazy,Once payed they forget you until the next payment date(Like our politicians forget us until the next election )

bro you are correct they just need the money on time and then you just need to forget about services and stuff..
it hardly matters to sify that if you are getting connection, speed and stuff which you are paying for not... they just need money on time thats it

Instead of wringing our hands and chaddies in despair, can we do something about it? Anybody happens to have Charu's mobile or office number, or Bhaskar's?

I know it is extremely unlikely anyone may have it, but hope springs eternal... :-)

I have the option of writing to Naresh Ajwani, President, Consumer (mis)Operations Department, but first want to catch hold of real, seniors ears and screech my frustrations into them.

Anybody has the contacts? TIA.

Fraudband, narrowband or whatever else we may call it, but their CC people sure have *THICK* skins. I positively insulted them and called their technical team incompetent after I got the "tomorrow" answer 3 times, but they would not budge from their stand that the technical team is looking into it. Talk about loyalty to the company.

The Mumbai CC number connects to the Chennai helpdesk. You might have figured that by now... this means you are shelling out STD rates everytime you call them. Bonus for customers, I suppose.

BTW, some chicks in the CC have sexy voices, so after your boss has left for the day, you may want to call up and insult a chick and enjoy as she tries to soothe you with her soft voice.

A silver lining to every cloud, dudes. :-)

No No a Big no to abuse..
i really dont abuse to girls in cust care they are just trying to justify there salary thats it and they are doing what management is asking them to do and whenever call gets connected in Chennai or Banglore or whereever then also we pay for local call only not for STD or something coz sify got a centralized callcenter and call can land anywhere in any sify call center.

But i agree some sify girls got very seductive voice

Humm... I have never tried that option of their service... will give it a try some time .

When ever I call sify I normally have my connection down and at that time I spit fire out of my mouth and all seductiveness gets burnt on the other end and it kind of becomes a war zone with weapons of mass destruction at use who can see the flirtability on the other end

I normally end up shouting and screaming over the phone with sify and they probbably have a note against my account saying Handle with care

whenever i call any cust care i never shout or abuse, i always talk in a very polite manner with all respect coz sometimes that makes your work easy but don't know why this time its not working at all. I think this is a problem by my local cable provider and he got a note of my complaint against him or something like that.

Today i will call sify to get a clear picture that what is going on and if they can do anything about it or not coz if its a problem created by my local provider then i m sure i will put him in deep **** by making proper formal complaint against him in electricity department and NDMC to get all his shitty hanging cables removed from area.
