    Lightbulb Firewall review

    Hey,

Here i am going to review a freeware firewall i have been using . Hope its useful to you .

COMODO FIREWALL PROFESSIONAL [ FREEWARE ] REVIEW

Well the latest version released is 3.0.25.378 . The latest version is compatible with Windows vista and xp . the older version 2.4 with Windows 2000 support is still available.

    Rating for Comodo Firewall

    PC world-Article quote

Many people believe that Comodo Firewall Pro takes the first prize, largely because it was rated as the top firewall by the independent testing site Matousec.
Matousec found that it offered the highest level of "anti-leak" protection--in essence, a measurement of a firewall's effectiveness.

    Site / Magazines rating
    Download.com - 5/5 rating
PC Magazine - 4.5/5 rating by both Editor and PC mag readers
    PC world - Rated Good
    Reviewcenter - 5/7 reviews

Pros and Cons of Comodo as listed by these sites

    Pros:
Strong filter . Possibly the safest firewall
    Not a resource hog
    Cons:
Can be complicated for n00bs and novices
Initially needs lots of user intervention.

    User Interface
Comodo Firewall has a very pleasant and smooth interface . The icons and options are well spaced out . it uses a basic white colored interface and is very simple to understand without looking outdated.
    comodo.jpg
    Performance
Comodo is a A-VSMART (A-VSMART is short for "Anti; Virus, Spyware, Malware, Adware, Rootkit and Trojan").
Installation is fast and simple . Needs a system restart . Initially you are asked to choose one of the
    Firewall security level
    options [Disabled,Training mode,Safe mode,User defined policy mode,Block all mode]
And also Defense+ security level options [Disabled,Training mode,Clean PC mode,Safe mode , Paranoid mode ]
Default option is the Safe mode and Clean PC mode
Apart from firewall security it also provides an additional feature which monitors the internal processes for suspicious activities.
    Defense+
Defense+ for proactive monitoring of internal systems and processes:
Defense+ is an advanced Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) that proactively monitors systems and system processes to detect and prevent system changes such as rootkit installations, inter-process memory injections, key-loggers and more. HIPS technology is driven by a white list architecture which identifies trusted applications and prevents untrusted applications being installed onto the computer.

Initially in the default mode it does not allow any exe files that connect to the internet to be executed without user verification [thru pop ups] . You can specifically unblock trusted applications [firefox,IE,Torrent client etc]. But as you use it , it starts to learn more about you and your system ,and it starts automatically blocking malware and allows non-malware without user intervention .Once you reach this stage it becomes unnesecary for you to constantly monitor the firewall .
It has its own internal database with which it verifies suspecious files .Users can submit other unknown files for review by Comodo .It has an active support forum where you can clear your doubts .
It has a self diagonastic feature which diagnoses any software stability issues .
And There are many more options you can use to really customise this firewall to do everything you wish for , perfectly .

Overall this is a solid Firewall which provides complete security from all attacks.Which after you get used to, will keep your system 100 % safe from any intrusion/attacks .
    Minimum Requiremnts:
2-bit OS, 64MB RAM, 55MB Free Hard disk Space

    Laurels awarded for Comodo Firewall

Repo me if this was useful .

Okay, I decided to give Comodo Firewall a try. There is a lot of configs to do. Maybe a resource hog but in zone Alarm you only need to config 2-3 options. And it displays 10 times more security alerts than Zone Alarm. Do you know any option to reduce this alerts ? :helpsmilie:

Sorry for the late reply ...busy .have nt been able to login

Right click on the firewall icon and click OPEN

Click on the Firewall tab [top where the options summary , Firewall , defense + etc options are present ]
You get a lot of options
There click on Define new trusted application options among many.
A small window pop ups . In there click on the small arrow near the select button.
Among the 3 options click Browse and select all the softwares u trust like Torrent, yahoo ,firefox etc .....
Try not to choose any 3rd party software even if you trust it .

Like i said in the review initially it ll block all the application . but eventually it ll learn your way of usage of the computer and block lesser and lesser apps .

    Give it some time

Thaks! a lot. Sorry, I uninstalled the Firewall. The popup alerts was really irritating. I am starting to like Commodo Firewall because of all the advanced options. Will try it now.

No need to tell me sorry .... i am not its developer ...... Yeah if you can stand all the pop ups and live with it for the first 2 months it becomes the best firewall ...

The many options need looking into ... you can really customize it like cars in NFS ;P
