Default Google Web Accelerator finally to be disacarded !!

Seems like Google has pulled the final plug of its much acclaimed web accelerator software. The final nail in the coffin was done in the form of Google removing the software's download link from the official download page. It comes as no surprise because Google is already mopping up unpopular services.

The software can still be downloaded through one of the direct download links.

I have also never heard of it. but from the explanation seems to be a good tool for those with limited volume internet plans. so why did it not take off?
has anybody here actually used it? was it of any benefit?

The software was a hit in other countries mainly the US and canada. Still people were worrying about their privacy as everything flows through Google's servers. Hence many stopped using it.

I have tried it when I had Dial-Up connection and didn't notice any increase in speed.

Is the web acceleration service still available, if we have Google Accelerator installed ?

I guess their servers must have been located out India and so we wouldn't have benefitted much from it.

Onspeed is good, but somtimes its very slugglish and websites don't load completely... but I stick with coz it saves lots of bandwidth.

Btw mail2sc the image quality slider can be used to turn off the compression if necessary..

I tested it with Firefox 3.0.6. But it says, extension is not compatible with this version for Firefox.

No. It's not. But I was looking for a freeware accelerator software/service. Before I didn't know Google Web Accelerator compresses data. I thought it's only some network or browser tweaks. I didn't get to try it properly when it was working, because I was using Dial-Up back then. In Dial-Up I noticed no speed increase.
