Off recently it has come to the notice that Google Earth installer for Mac silently installs an update program which does the job of silently updating all the Google Applications installed on the PC. Root access is granted to the process and in order to install any software from Google, users are forced to accept it. Manual update option has been totally removed from the applications. When confronted Google has chosen to remain mum on the issue rather than giving an explanation.

google updater is also installed automatically in windows systems the moment G-Earth or Crome is installed.
I had to manually adjust the start-up program list and firewall access to G-updater to eliminate unnecessary downloads during non-free hours.

this has been done in the past by many applications even in windows. i dont think it is wrong to do so. like adobe reader doesnt have a manual update option. the update starts automatically always. though there are tricks to kill the automatic update process, but these can be frustrating sometimes.

yes.
generally half of the frantic posts regarding unexplained downloads and abnormal bills of broadband are due to such automatic updaters.
