Default Latest Winamp and VLC Player

    VLC Player 0.9.9

Frustrated with your current media player's skimpy codec support? VLC Media Player will play every audio and video format you've ever encountered, plus many you've probably never encountered--and give you plenty of extras as well. With some media players, such as Windows Media Player, if you want to play files in certain formats, you'll have to download a special codec. In many instances, you simply won't be able to play it. But this great free piece of Open Source software will handle just about any format you can throw at it.

VLC features a simple, stripped-down interface, but offers extras if you dig deeply enough. When you're playing a video, for example, you can adjust the image in many ways. Similarly, there's a nice graphic equalizer that lets you adjust audio effects as well. It does this, though, without interfering with its clean interface. And unlike many other multimedia players, VLC won't hog RAM or system resources.

    Winamp 5.552

Unlike some other jukebox software, it doesn't take up too much hard disk space, and it's simply designed, and easy and straightforward to use.

There are plenty of skins so you can customize how Winamp looks, a podcast directory so it's easy to track and manage podcasts you download, and it plays videos as well as music. Those who like to be entertained while they listen to music can watch the visualizations. And also very useful is the ability to listen to AOL's Shoutcast radio stations.

Winamp Full is missing some features, however. You can't rip CDs to MP3 files, for example, and you can only burn audio CDs eight times with it. To get around these problems, you'll have to pay $20 for the Pro version.

Be aware that when you install this software, it will set Winamp Search as your default search engine-- and will sign you up for a free trial in the eMusic music service--so make sure to uncheck boxes next to those options if you don't want them.

Use media player classic which comes with the klitecodec pack. It plays any file. It hasn't failed me for nearly 2 years. much better than VLC.

VLC doesn't support some real media formats. But not much people use that format now a days. I had to change back to Media Player Classic because it cause sync problem with subtitle of some files.

Winamp used to be my favorite audio player when I used to listen to music. You can download and the install cool skin/interface for Winamp from here. I used to have Winamp skin that's like 3d electronic dragonfly (animated).

I have used this version VLC 1.0.1 after seeing it supports real (.rm & .rmvb) media format now. But didn't test it. There are lot of improvements in version 1.0.1 compared to version 0.9.9. Change log can be viewed here.

In the previous one listed here, It offers to increase the sound by 200 % which I found very useful while viewing new cam movies. Just curious about similar improvements.
