I use Media Player Classic- Home Cinema with K- Lite Mega Codec Pack. It plays every music and video format I have tried. It is simple, easy to use and customizable. Also uses less memory(I think). And Totem Movie Player with GStreamer plugins for Ubuntu.

I use mplayer because of its extensive features as do majority of macOSX users ( its frontend smplayer).
You can decode & encode vids on it.

Also I oppose Windows media players as do majority of linux & mac OS X user (it can be run on linux using playonlinux or crossover or wine.). Reason :-
DRM (due to which even Sony( which introduced it for copyright protection) is boycotted by many).

PS: These are opinions & opinions are changing due to change in time.
History is on the move,my friends. Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from distance. And those who stand in its way will not watch at all.

People are going to tell stories about me none of which change who I really am.

There was never any DRM issues with any windows media player. Due to DRM a person is forced to use windows media player which is an unfair practice. That's why I don't use WMP.

I use Media Player Classic – Home Cinema. It's very light on resources. It comes bundled with k-lite mega codec pack .Just install this codec pack and QuickTime alternative and you can play 99% formats

Uncle you may want to avoid merging an established thread with a not-so-established older thread ......... It effects the visibility of the thread on google ......... The tags i had given the thread has all gone
