Which Torrent client do you use?

Arrow Which Torrent client do you use?

Which is your preferred or most used Bittorrent client?

I use utorrent and Vuze. I like both of them, Nearly all private trackers recommend utorrent. And its very lightweight with any system requirements and such.

I find Vuze (Azureus) very functional and gives lots of options with which you can fiddle around.

so tell us...which client do you prefer and why?

utorrent. I am using since beginning. One of my friends gave it to me when I didn't know what a torrent is. When I understood how it works, I started using utorrent. Luckily it happens to be the best one. Would like to experiment with a few others too.

Deluge. It uses 20 mb memory in my configuration. I think it is best available client for Linux users.

    Torrent clients I have used

    1. μtorrent
    2. ABC (Yet Another Torrent Client)
    3. Arctic Torrent
    4. Azureus & Vuze
    5. Bit Spirit
    6. Bit Tornado
    7. Bit Tyrant
    8. Bitcomet
    9. Bittorrent ++
    10. Bittorrent old & new
    11. Deluge
    12. Fire Torrent (addon)
    13. Flashget
    14. Fox Torrent (addon)
    15. G3 Torrent
    16. Halite
    17. Ktorrent
    18. Miro
    19. Opera
    20. Rufus
    21. Transmission

Some of them are really good. But none of them have as many important features as μtorrent.

Yeah, Azureus/Vuze has even more features than μtorrent (eg: torrent rating), but most of them are by the help of plugins and it's a little messy (advanced though). Most of the important or must have features needed for torrent client are already inbuilt in utorrent as a single small package.

The reason I don't like Azureus is because of it's multiple tab interface and Vuze because there is no option to disable downloading of multiple files at start up. And also hard to modify trackers for a torrent.

Are you using the classic ui or modern ui?

I have used classic UI (in Bit Tyrant) and modern UI in Vuze (didn't download anything).

Try the Classic UI in Vuze. You will need to go to options>interface>start>display vuze ui chooser. Select the classic UI from there.

    You will not regret it!

I tried it out. It’s definitely better than Vuze UI and Azureus old version. But it’s still a little hard to manage torrents in it. Probably because I am used to μtorrent’s simple interface. The application stopped working when I installed 3D View plugin after showing a wrong NVIDIA version error. And I had to uninstall it.

After that I tested LH- ABC, a modified version of ABC (Yet Another Bittorrent Client) which is based on Bittornado.

The modification includes RSS support, Search, Command scheduler etc. It’s got all the important features required for a good bittorrent client. And some features even μtorrent hasn’t.

The only problem I notice is, no file selection menu when adding a torrent and empty folders created when there are multiple folders in a torrent, even after disabling them in file selection menu.

Yeah the 3d plug-in does not work on my Vuze also. I don't use bittornado based client because it has been banned by most private trackers that I use.

I didn't know it was banned. I rarely use private torrent trackers. And Vuze HD contents are cool. I downloaded some new movie HD trailers with it.

The only private trackers I use are Demonoid and some other small open registration ones. It seems Azureus/Vuze and μtorrent are the only bittorrent clients all trackers support.

one more question. suppose i'm downloading a torrent which has , say two file1 and file2. But due to lower number of seeds i'm getting low speeds, say 50 kBps

will it work if i download each file separately in a different client, then i may/will get 50 kBps speed for each file ?

Even µTorrent and Azureus is banned in private trackers.
Is it be because of a security flaw in that build or is there any other special reason for banning them ?

Speed is directly dependent on # of seeds you are connected to at the moment. In theory if you tried such a thing...it might work, I haven't tested it. Tell us what you achieve.

Using the same torrent file in two different clients simultaneously will earn you a ban on most private trackers. Public trackers don't mind this though.

However you can use 2 clients; one for seeding and one for downloading.

Infact you can even use 2 separate instances of utorrent. I have seen a tutorial somewhere...google it. If you can't find it let me know, I'll post it here.

Some specific builds do not report the stats correctly to the tracker, and can lead to incorrect reporting of ratios. Thus most private trackers don't allow these versions. They also don't allow any alpha or beta versions of well known clients, mainly due to this reason.

Most advanced/popular torrent clients have disabled multiple connections from the same ip by default.

This command is not there in Unix based OS , can you give me its equivalent.

PS: Can some client seed you on basis of IP addresses also? Then there is no way you can get dual seeding.

people running multiple clients with the same torrent can download it from you. If not enabled, only one can access at a time.

Well as a newbie i used vuze since it has all inbuilt functions. You don't need to go to any websites to search for torrents.

But since my experience grew i started using u-torrent and i am quite satisfied with it as it uses less system resourses.

I have tried bitcomet also, but found u-torrent and vuze much better.

There is no doubt that uTorrent is the most popular client. Reason is that it is very light. A friend of mine was saying that when he was using Azureus (Vuze), the CPU fan noise could be heard.

Possible...but only if your friend was using the modern UI. Switch over to classic UI and enjoy blazing fast speeds.

    ^ Yeah mine too...

BTW is any one suffering from a problem where Vuze takes too much time to load? I may have a solution for you...

Vuze was working fine while I was on Vista...when I updated my os to 7, Vuze took nearly 5 minutes to boot up.

I searched everywhere on google, Vuze forums...could not find the answer...than out of the blue I saw this article on Vuze wiki...and it worked wonders!

Now when I start Vuze it loads up in a fraction of a second!!

Yeah, for downloading torrents even I chose uTorrent as my first client and glad that it was one of those rare "get it right first time" moments!
