    I beleive the audio quality depends on the file in question.

    Maximum u can do in software is add plug-ins like DFX or SRS-Audio sandox.

    Winamp FTW.

    If you want really good quality ditch the MP3 128s...get lossless MP3 320kps multichannel or FLACs.

    I use Media Player Classic with K- Lite Mega Codec Pack as audio and video player.

    The sound quality depends on the sound file and the hardware. I don't think audio players make much difference. Winamp is an audio player most people prefer as it's easy to use and many useful feature.

    Important factors for high quality MP3 file

    Bit Rate

    94 kb/s- Radio Quality
    128 kb/s- CD Quality
    320 kb/s- DVD Quality

    Sample Rate

    22050 Hz - Low Quality
    44100 Hz - Standard Quality
    48000 Hz - High Quality

    And Audio Channels- 2.0, 2.1, 4.1, 5,1.

    but MP3 even at 320 kbps is not lossless. FLAC and WAV are the ones which are truly lossless and hence have the best audible quality.

    How to get files in FLAC format ? Converting an MP3 file to FLAC won't make any difference right ? WAV format is commonly used, so it's not a problem.

    No it won't.

    While copying from CD's itself it should be converted to FLAC. IMO only audiophiles use it !

    FLAC and wav have to be ripped from a CD only. FLAC and WAV are lossless. you can convert from lossless to lossy but not the other way round.

    I.E.

    1. audioCD -> FLAC/WAV -> MP3 any bit rate is okay
    2. audioCD -> MP3 (any bit rate is okay)
    3. audioCD -> MP3 -> FLAC is incorrect.
    4. audioCD -> Higher bitrate MP3 -> lower Bitrate MP3 is also good.
    5. audioCD -> Lower bitrate MP3 -> Higher Bitrate MP3

    in steps 3 and 5, you are not improving the quality but only adding redundant data and increasing the file size.

    You can use a software called EAC to rip perfect quality FLACs and other lossless formats.

    yes they are.

    And when you rip a lossless FLAC or extract the WAV the integrity of the audio is never lost.

    Already said by NPU above. The media player is not going to affect much. The quality of the source file will matter.

    The only difference is that some media players will provide additional facilities such as equalizers and presets.
