Time Warner’s internet division AOL has finally launched the final version of their instant messaging application AOL AIM 6. The company is promising a wide range of new features in this update.
AOL said that this version doubles the number of allowable contacts on a buddy list to 1,000 and it also supports RSS feeds. It can also track contacts who upload videos or post pictures to social networking sites like MySpace.com and Flickr.com.
Marcien Jenckes, vice president and general manager of AIM and Social Networking at AOL added his views in a statement: “We built this brand new client with the needs of our users in mind. AIM keeps our users connected and so we gave them the features that help them best manage their lives and their relationships within AOL’s messaging community.”
AOL AIM 6 also includes links to AOL’s own social-networking sites. The service has almost 30 million registered users around the world and the company hopes to take on MSN Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger with this update.
