Chrome and chromium ( its open source version) has taken the thunder march in the war of browsers. And it is easily going to win among the current browsers seeing current scenario.
Though many people aren't aware of what is new in chrome but they are using for its advanced security and fast speed. Though in short if I were asked to reply for the above two factors I will say because it is browser de gen'ext.
But it is not alone. In the heartland of Urbana_Champaign campus , University of Illinois ( which also gave birth to Mosaic browser) a next generation browser is being made. Also in under-fire Microsoft's research center a project christened Gazlle is trying to create a gen'ext (generation next) browser is being made.
But what heck is new in these browser many are going to ask. Infact difference between these and conventional browser ( excluding chrome) is like the difference between lynx , links, and IE , Netscape.
What were browsers made to do? To support html basically not these scripts , e-banking & only God knows what. Soon people will be using browser primarily. So you see, as at the time of their making there was no need to think about security. These they were not taken into account and so security in conventional is compromised already more or less easily. But that's not the case with chrome. In gen'ext browser every process are separate much ( like an OS) unlike conventional browser where all things are run by the same process. So you see unlike IE where once a cracker get enter he get a free run but in chrome he is gonna break his head as he will have to compromise process one by one.
As for speed just think if two different process one for loading images , html & etc, & other for scripts and other for flash and so on. Then they will run faster obviously.
Mozilla and opera haven't till yet announce any plans for these type of browser. Though I think they will.
PS: Browser de gen'ext is term coin by me to describe these browsers. You are not gonna find it on the google.
