According to the statistics collected by Net Application, IE 8, is the most used browser in the world as of Jan , 2010. This is a significant success for Microsoft considering that its previous release, internet explorer 7, wasn’t nearly as popular.

However firefox , internet explorer’s closest competitor isn’t far away. With internet explorer accounting for 28 % and a world wide share of 25.6 % when all OS’s are taken, internet explorer leads the pack and that’s just within one year of its launch. The internet explorer 6 is slightly below Internet explorer 8 in terms of usage with 20% share and Internet explorer 7 at just 14.5%.

Mozilla firefox stands at 3rd position overall, with a usage share of 17%, although it is expected to catch up quite soon, with its plug-in’s being a major highlight.
