Intel leads AMD in the microprocessor market with the release of their new 32 nano meter chips. In contrast the AMD microprocessor is not expected to roll out 32 nano meter chips at least until 2011.
AMD claims that the size of the chip is insignificant and the factors which matter are performance and graphics. Of late AMD has been showing more interest and trying to dominate it. Although AMD commands a significant share of the GPU cards market, it is no doubt that the Intel commands a significant share since most of the people still use the integrated graphics found in the motherboards.
In this industry, the manufacturers have always relied upon shrinking the size as the best means of delivering better performance as well reducing the cost of the product as well.
This is because with lower sizes, number of transistors can be packed in a smaller space, and this reduces the cost. Due to the lower size the transistors can change their states even faster hence this also increases the performances.
