After a demonstration at Black Hat DC conference , where the bit locker was successfully bypassed, Microsoft claims that it has little to with real world significance, provided customers make a sufficiently complex user pin.

BitLocker is a technology built into advanced version of windows 7 OS, namely enterprise and ultimate, which allows a user to secure his PC by encrypting all the data stored in the hard disk. Thus even if the hard disk itself is stolen it would be difficult to decrypt.

BitLocker depends on the TPM chip in the motherboard to store the user’s pin and other data. MS claims that it took sufficient efforts to ensure that even if the attacker tried to retrieve the data from the TPM, it will be difficult due to the advanced technology and also because of the design besides the fact that it required advanced skills.
