Nokia and Intel have merged their OS Maemo and Moblin which have been developed by them respectively into one Linux based open source Mobile OS MeeGo.
MeeGo will be used in mobile devices, netbooks, tablets, mediaphone, Internet connected televisions and in vehicle infotainment devices and systems. MeeGo has been developed combining the best features taken from each Operating system. In MeeGo Moblin's core and Maemo's user interface toolkit have been included. MeeGo Operating system will support Intel's Atom and ARM Architectures.
Intel's The Linux Foundation will host the code for MeeGo Operating system, the MeeGo Os and its applications will be marketed by nokia through their Ovi Store.
The MeeGo based devices are expected to be available by end of this year.
