There are tons of audio / video player software’s on the internet, usually most them cater to specific formats and there are a few, which are, all in one media players. In the latter category, there are many those which use mplayer as a backend and SMplayer is one of them.
SMplayer too, support both windows as well as Linux. What make it different from other players is that it supports a lot of features as well as customizations usually not found in other popular media players. For example it supports DVD like feature of resuming a media file from the last place up to which it was played before being interrupted.
It also has other features like remembering setting for video files on a per file basis. Ie if the sync for a file is set, it is automatically retained even when the file is closed and reopened.
The media player comes inbuilt with inbuilt codecs which it stores in its own directories and not installed to windows directory, this further allows for a clean uninstall. There is also a portable version for those need it. It is open source software.
