DAP acceleration is achieved by two factors:
1. locating the most responsive servers from which the file will be downloaded
2.Implementing multi-connection downloading from those servers.
Downloading from the most responsive servers - DAP executes a proximity check to determine which of the available mirror sites are most responsive in relation to the specific user's location. The file is then downloaded from the most responsive server(s).
Multi-connection downloading - the file is downloaded in several segments through multiple connections and reassembled at the user's PC. This results in better utilization of the user's available bandwidth.
If you're using broadband this may not be noticable but, when using a dialup connection, have you ever tried downloading 2 or 3 files at the same time? Each new download slows down the others proportionally because they have to share the connection. You can only get a finite amount of bandwidth through the modem.
What DAP does is immediately hogs 4 channels for itself, checks for fastests servers, splits the file into 4 pieces(default one), and begins downloading the separate pieces, which it reconstructs as one whole file when it is done. This appears to be downloading faster and, in fact, in some cases it might, because it pings servers for response times and picks the fastest four. Thus download at maximum speed. You can configure it`s settings i the Option menu.
