    Switch to Comodo Dragon, the xerox of Google chrome, but it is quite better than chrome.

    Better to try a solution to a problem first ,
    rather than "throwing the baby with the bath water " .

    @gaggan4392
    Your emphasis on "baby" not understood !!!!!
    This is a proverb!
    Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
    Prov. Do not discard something valuable in your eagerness to get rid of some useless thing associated with it.
    Source : Google search.

    @alokmis
    1.Check Note down
    C:// disk space available and free space available.
    Now create a SYSTEM RESTORE POINT.
    2.
    Please mention your OS. Whether updated?
    Give details of any two software applications which "freeze"
    3.
    Download ccleaner from filehippo.com
    Run the application to clear old temp files/cache etc.
    4.
    A new option available .Delete
    Old System Restore points.
    Keep one Restore point for each week and delete rest. Latest will not be deleted.

    5.
    Download Anvir Task Manager Free
    and uncheck many applications which
    appear at start up.

    6.
    Eliminate doubt ,about virus. by running the AV scan for all directories. may take some time more than two/three hours.

    7.
    Give feedback for steps taken above and ,any improvement seen.
    8.
    Give data of free disk space in C: /now..

    try here:
    Google Chrome - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

    From Google Search: for your error message:
    FIXED! Yes, I tried everything Google suggested too, including re-installs, checking registry info etc but still couldn't update. I uninstalled Chrome and re-installed using Google Pack with Chrome as the only selected install and lo and behold update works now!
    Also mentioned some problems with 64 bit OS.
