The Microsoft Saga continues. Yet another product launch from Microsoft. It is not an easy job to perform well all the time. Microsoft has did it this time also. But this time they were better prepared. Unlike last time Microsoft distributed public betas to gather feedback. I must say that this was right move. It ensured the participation of online tech communities and triggered a lot of discussions. Most of them ended with a positive review. Microsoft should consider itself lucky to do this all the time. They might have learned the lesson from Windows 7 Beta release. Like Windows 7, Office 2010 also ran on a no. of desktops as beta gathering data about system performance ratio and ease of use.

About 60 % of Microsoft’s revenue comes from Office products. So they were cautious this time. Google Docs and Zoho were creating a tremendous threat to Microsoft Office. Recent surveys shows that the impact of cloud computing, in which the data is stored on a remote server which can be accessed online has shown signs of serious threat towards Microsoft’s profit intentions. So this time they are supplying web based version free with desktop version. Obviously there will be some room reserved for advertisements. But it is a good move from Microsoft.
