Microsoft considering linking Active Directory and Live Services
Software giants Microsoft has said that they are considering the possibility of linking their Active Directory with its Windows Live Web-based services. This would result in a situation where users would have a single sign-on for applications and services on the local network as well as on the internet.
This can be done using the company’s Windows Live ID previously called the Microsoft’s Passport service. However, it is not clear by when they expect to release this functionality to their customers.
Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s chief software architect said in a statement that they are looking at it as a way to bridge the gap between the Live services and the enterprise services, which Microsoft offers to their clients.
The company plans to develop it in a way that when a user signs on to the Active Director to access services within a company’s network, they are automatically logged into their Live account making available access to personalized Windows Live Messenger, Office Live, and other Web-based services.
