Rep Power: 3 | Hi I am getting a brand new Acer 4720 notebook today, The sub-dealer has told me Linux has not pre-load, you will be getting CD to install, you have wait 3 hours to get get the notebook, but the Acer website shows Acer" Operating system: Linux " and according to techtree Techtree " Laptop comes with the Linpus Linux OS pre-installed, this DVD is a god-send whilst installing Windows. " I straightaway told i will install Linux, but i have never install Linux, but i have formate/install XP in desktop. Please help Step by Step Installation. I have little bet of Q? > I want to install Window Vista or XP but later! what is the best partition should i create before i installing Linux.{ TOTAL 160GB } > It is necessary to install window first before installing Linux > Is Linpus Linux is user friendly to install. > When i get the Notebook what should i do first! |

Rep Power: 12 | Linux is a sheer waste of time for an average user like myself.. You will be wasting half of your life looking for Linux compatible stuff on the internet and even hardware is a problem. Games and controllers and what not... you will get nightmares about unavailability of drivers and what not. I personally think windows is what an average user like me needs and if your lappy came with no operating system installed then just go to any computer repair shop and get windows xp or vista installed on it.. forget about linux mate its something which those people use who dont have anything better to do in life except for banging their head against walls. Yes I will invite strong reactions from linux users here but before puking out your angry comments here think for a min ... what good is linux doing to you? saving time for you? faster then windows? more convenient? well I guess all of the answers will be no. Yes every Linux user takes pride in using Linux and bragging about it Microsoft sucks and will for ever but windows still haven't been beaten yet... this Linux clan will have to work a lot more harder before they can claim to be a competitor.. if at all. |

Rep Power: 2 | If you are a more of a gammer guy then i would not suggest you to go with Linux as it is not good for gaming platform but if you would like to use your Laptop for business thing then it is surely one of the best thing to use as it is much secure and stable unlike Windows. So you should first decide for what prupose you would use it. |

Rep Power: 2 | If you would like to see how Linux works on your system then you can just boot from the Linux (Ubuntu) CD and then click the first option and then you can see how it works. |

Rep Power: 0 | I just came across this thread. I am really appalled by the ignorance of the admin. It is a shame that the admin, instead of providing any solution is actually discouraging someone to use linux. with regards to linux being faster than windows. the answer is yes, convenient - yes, maybe for a lazy guy like the admin no. BDW, i think its people like you who puke out your reactions and mislead other and no linux user in real sense actually need to brag about their abilities. if you actually knew much about your stuff you wouldn't have had such comments here 'mate'. so cut the fake australian accent and get a real job and some life. |

Rep Power: 2 | no offence to any linux users... but the moment i tried to load my drivers for my laptop so i can connect to network properly... it wasnt executing the .exe files. then from there onwards i lost my head cos i cudnt find it easy to connect to internet. and it was operating rather slow on my 512 ram. so i lost my head and uninstalled it completely. cos i wasnt intrested in learning a whole new set of rules and principles when i had already gotten so used to windows xp. i guess its what one gets used to over time... and its true... people who use linux do have an exceptional understanding for it, but i prefer to use windows since i dont wanna spend my time learning too much about a new OS. |
